This Time, I'll Be the Villain's Favorite Daughter novel Chapter 79

Chapter 79-The-Search Begins

He had an excellent memory, and his wife had sharp observation skills. In that regard, Lawrence had inherited the best of both and was a truly smart child.

Facing Kaia’s dullness again so suddenly. Thomas took a deep breath, telling himself to stay calm.

Maybe that girl just looked a bit similar.

Over the years, it wasn’t like he hadn’t seen girls who resembled Lawrence.

There were many across the country.

If his daughter had really been trafficked or taken in by some organization, it shouldn’t be this coincidental.

In that moment, Thomas thought of many things.

But, he still couldn’t convince himself to let it go.

With doubt and unwillingness in his heart, Thomas quickly called his assistant and private investigators.

“Go check,” his voice was calm and clear through the phone. “I want the enrollment files and family background information of every girl in the international program and advanced program of the elementary division at Harmony International School. Right now.”

After that, Thomas adjusted his breathing again and clenched his phone tightly.

Every second of waiting for a reply felt extremely long.

After leaving the school gate, Raymond rubbed his neck and said in a light tone, “See? Dad runs fast, right? You two little ones were sleeping so soundly.”

It had been a long time since he had experienced the pain of being forced to sit through something like that.

Raymond was actually a very patient person. When getting close to a target, he could prepare and wait all day if needed. But no matter how patient someone was, no one could stand the boredom of a parent- teacher meeting.

There wasn’t even any phone signal.

That was just cruel!

“It was fast,” Maya said. “But Dad, you ran too fast! It was like a ghost was chasing you.”

“Can’t help it, I hate school,” Raymond laughed.

Alfred finally found some common ground with his father.

“I hate it too.”

The father and son were clearly both people who disliked school.

Maya was very interested in digging into her dad’s shady past. She skipped lightly in front of him. “So Dad, were your grades really bad in school

It felt like when her dad was younger, he spent all his time thinking about causing trouble.

Raymond smiled and tapped her little head. “Wrong. I could get full marks with my eyes closed.”

He wasn’t lying about that.

Maya pursed her lips, looking a bit down. “I hate smart people!”

Raymond laughed.

This was why having a daughter was fun; no matter what he said, he always gave him a lively reaction.

“Alright, I’m kidding. Actually, I’m a fool too.” He patted her head. “Let’s go, let’s go. We’re heading home.”

Maya held her dad’s hand and grabbed her brother’s hand too. She flashed a bright smile. “Yeah, let’s go home.”

Late at night, Thomas sat at his computer desk for a long time. Finally, his encrypted email pinged. With a shaking hand, he clicked it open.

One by one, photos of girls’ profiles flashed across the screen.

Chapter 79 A Striking Resemblance

In the end, the computer screen stopped on a girl named Maya.

The enrollment date and age were clearly written on it.

The moment her photo loaded, Thomas felt his breath catch:

It felt like all the blood in his body rushed to his head at once, only to freeze a second later.

The girl in the photo had a pair of clear amber eyes, a youthful face, and delicate features.

Thomas stared intensely at those eyes and the shape of her face. His fingers tightened without him knowing, almost crushing the mouse.

She looks too much like her.

It wasn’t just the color of her eyes, but also the outline of her brows and eyes…

If there was one difference between her and Lawrence, it was that this girl had more baby fat on her face, and her smile was brighter and happier.

She looked like a child who had grown up in a loving environment.

He immediately called back, his voice turning raspy because he was in such a rush.

“That child named Maya-do you have her home address, or any more detailed information?”

The assistant on the other end of the line sounded a bit hesitant, “I’m sorry, Mr. Jackson.

“We accessed the school database. This child’s file… aside from her name, class, and age, the rest of the information seems to have been specially handled.

“Or it wasn’t entered completely when she enrolled.

“We tried other channels, but we don’t have any more detailed information for now.”

Thomas refused to accept it. “Nothing from other channels either?”

“Nothing.”

Thomas forced himself to calm down. He had survived years of searching; he couldn’t afford to be too

reckless now.

He kept thinking. “Check again and see if she has a brother.”

“Get the files on the boy who enrolled on the same day as her.”

This time, the response came much faster.

The boy in the enrollment photo had a cold expression and refined features.

But, he shared no resemblance with Maya at all.

Thomas kept going through the information he had.

He realized that the data he received was extremely limited. Everything about this family felt strange.

That man named Raymond was clearly just an ordinary man,

How did he manage to send both children to the international program?

Maybe asking Kaia could give him some answers.

Thomas leaned back in his chair, letting out a slow breath and closing his eyes.

But in his mind, his son Lawrence’s cold and sharp words echoed at the wrong time.

“Do you even miss the past?

“You’re always stuck in the past, but to you, I don’t matter, my sister doesn’t matter. You only care about yourself, drowning in your own pain and acting like you’re deeply devoted. It’s disgusting.”

After his wife died, Thomas really had been depressed for a long time.

He shut himself off, numbing himself with work and alcohol. In some ways, he really had ignored the pain of his surviving son.

“You don’t really love anyone. You only love yourself.”

That sentence from Lawrence cut him open like a knife, exposing his selfishness.

And Kaia…

The very existence of that child was his way of deceiving himself.

Three years after his daughter went missing, he had adopted a baby girl of a similar age, trying to use her to fill that empty space in his heart.

When Kaia’s greedy biological parents tried to blackmail him again, he didn’t hesitate to hire someone to

deal with them.

Thomas had always been ruthless. When he acted, he left no room for anything else.

He never cared if Kaia would hate him if she ever found out.

In fact, since he could do something like that, it meant he never really cared about her feelings at all.

She was just a substitute.

If Kaia was lucky enough, she might never learn the truth about her biological parents being killed.
