When Fenja woke up, she felt a little bit lighter, the pain that had been lingering on her chest disappeared, though not completely.

And then she remembered what happened.

“Finally, you are awake, you need to eat first before you drink your concoction.” Arya stretched out her body and Fenja was startled to see the healer was here.

“What are you doing here?” Fenja was flustered, thus she blurted out the first thing that came to her mind. She looked around her, but she couldn’t find Xaden.

This gesture didn’t go unnoticed by Arya.

“Xaden has a meeting with Kane and Rize, I think he will come back later.” But, a second later, someone pushed open the door and it was Xaden. “Speaking of the devil.” Arya stood up.

“How is she?” Xaden asked. His voice was as emotionless as ever and Fenja had gotten used to it.

The way he touched her before, it almost felt like a dream. As if everything that happened between them hours ago was a dream.

Now, Xaden went back to his usual self. Cold and untouchable. He would detach himself and Fenja would feel the pain again after a little bit of relief.

“She is fine… for now. There is not much improvement, but it is a good thing that her condition doesn’t get any worse.” Arya then approached Xaden and said something that Fenja couldn’t hear.

If only she still had all of her senses in perfect condition, she would be able to hear even a needle across the room, but now when everything was dull for her, Fenja almost felt like she was blind and deaf.

After saying whatever it was to Xaden, Arya waved her hand at Fenja. “I will be back with a potion for you, for now, enjoy your meal and drink your concoction without protest.” She then shifted her attention towards Xaden. “Make sure she eats everything.”

“Hm.”

And then Arya left the room, leaving the two of them alone. Once it was only them, Xaden when to a long table and brought the tray of food that had prepared for Fenja.

He put it on her lap and adjusted her pillow, so she would eat more comfortably.

“Thank you,” Fenja mumbled. She stared at her food, while Xaden pulled a chair to sit down next to her bed. ” Do you want to say something?” Fenja asked Xaden without lifting her eyes from the food on her lap.

Probably, he was ready for the rejection now… Both of them had calmed down slightly, what happened before must be a mistake.

Fenja nudged the meat with the knife, but she didn’t have the appetite to eat anything at this moment. “I don’t think I can eat. Let’s talk.” She lifted her head and looked at Xaden, but she couldn’t figure out what was in his

mind.

She disliked the fact that she didn’t even know a slightest thing about Xaden, aside from all those trivial things that she used to ask him.

The color he liked, the food he liked, and what favorite place that he wished to visit again, that kind of things… but never about himself…

“Eat.” Xaden moved, he leaned over and took the knife and fork from Fenja’s hand. He sliced the meat into mouthful pieces and then put the plate down on the tray again. “Eat, after that we will talk.”

Fenja stared at her plate, to the nicely cut meat that Xaden had done for her.

“You don’t need to be nice with me… it will make things hard.”

“I don’t mean to make things hard for you.” Xaden narrowed his eyes, his expression changed slightly, but Fenja didn’t see it.

“Things will hard between us. It will end the same way, right? With you rejecting the mate bond.”

“Never said that again. I have said it before.” Suddenly, Xaden’s voice turned colder and this startled Fenja. She looked at him again and found anger in his dark eyes.

In a way, Xaden admitted what happened when Fenja thought, they would pretend that the sex a few hours ago was a mistake and acted as if it never happened.

“Now eat your food and we will have conversation about it.” Xaden’s voice was stern, but the anger had dissipated. He was really good at concealing his emotions.

This time, Fenja didn’t argue, though in the end, she couldn’t eat all of the meat. “Have you eaten?” she asked, the question sounded very mundane.

“I have.”

Fenja ate two more pieces and then pushed it away. “I am full,” she mumbled and Xaden didn’t push her
