Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 149

He checked his watch. It was already late, and Bonnie still needed to head over to the police station.

“You should wear something warmer. It’s really cold outside,” Aiken said, his eyes full of concern when he saw how pale she looked, her lips almost colorless. “And don't forget your scarf.”

Bonnie nodded quietly. She went back in, put away her things, slipped into a thicker coat, and wrapped that old patterned scarf snugly around her neck.

When she came back out, she caught Aiken’s co-worker giving him a teasing wink.

Aiken shot his colleague a look, then turned to Bonnie with a gentle smile. “Let’s go. There's nothing to be afraid of. We’ll figure out what's going on, I promise. You’ll get answers.”

Bonnie believed him, but too much was weighing on her mind. She tried to smile, but all she could manage was a shaky tug at the corner of her mouth.

Aiken almost reached out to ruffle her hair, or pull her in close like he had before, just to remind her he was there, but now wasn’t the time. It wouldn’t be right.

He pressed the elevator button, picked up the bag of trash, and walked with Bonnie and his co-worker back to the station.

Bonnie stayed quiet the whole way. Her thoughts kept circling back to one thing. She had never crossed paths with the delivery guy before. He had zero reason to go after her. Whoever sent him, it wasn't personal.

That left only one possibility. Hannah’s fans.

But accusations needed proof. Bonnie could only hope that someone at the station would get the real story out of the delivery guy. Still, deep down, she knew it wouldn’t be that simple.

They arrived at the station in just a few minutes. Aiken asked his colleague to go inside first. He stayed back with Bonnie for a moment.

He stood in front of her to block the wind, his voice low and gentle. “Do you have any idea who might be behind this? You can tell me anything. Even if you’re not sure, we’ll check it out.”

Those words hit her like a thunderbolt, leaving her dizzy and breathless.

Bonnie couldn’t believe what she’d just heard. Hannah’s voice echoed in her head again and again.

She kept hearing the words—Lawrence’s baby.

Standing alone on the sidewalk, under a sun that felt too hot for March, Bonnie felt herself melting away, burnt down to nothing, every part of her raw and exposed.

The pain was so sharp she almost thought she’d collapse right there. She crouched, holding her chest, her fingers digging in just to keep breathing.

But she refused to break on that street. She needed to know the truth.
