Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 153

Aiken’s brows pulled together. “What did they say?”

“They wanted me to tell the girl in 1208 that she’s… garbage. A pest…”

Aiken’s face went hard in an instant. The delivery guy shrank back, words drying up in his throat. There was more. He was supposed to say that she’d better leave Cabinda, or this was just a warning. The real trouble was yet to come.

He clamped his mouth shut, then finally blurted out, “That’s really all I know. Officer, please, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for things to get this far. Don’t send me to jail, please? And don’t report me either. My mom’s not well, I have to buy her medicine…”

His words started tumbling out, voice getting shaky as he pleaded.

Aiken waited for him to calm down, then asked for the overseas contact number and the account info that had sent the money. Everything was still on the delivery guy’s phone. Aiken handed it off to a colleague, but the results weren’t good.

They could trace it, but only up to a cross-border transaction. The actual organizer was out of reach.

From experience, Aiken knew these sorts of cases rarely went anywhere. The person behind it knew exactly what they were doing. Even if they did get through, the police had no authority overseas.

Cases way more serious than this one often ended up with nothing, and this was just a bag of trash left at Bonnie’s door.

Aiken had no idea how to explain this to her. She already seemed scared, like she was living with her heart in her throat.

Without a clear answer, there was no way she’d ever feel settled.

He left the rest for his colleague and went looking for Bonnie. She was sitting quietly, legs pressed together, holding a bottle of milk, her toes only just touching the floor. She looked so small, so careful. Fragile.

Her face was pale, half-hidden by the scarf he’d given her.
