Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 156

Everyone froze, startled by the sudden noise. Their heads snapped up, eyes drifting over to Bonnie as her phone buzzed nonstop. Bonnie stared at her screen, watching text after text flash by. She could barely catch her breath before she fumbled for the silent switch on the side of her phone.

The room went quiet, but the messages kept piling up on her lock screen, popping in and folding away like a relentless tide.

“Bonnie, what’s happening?” people asked, their curiosity quick to turn into concern.

Bonnie wasn’t sure either. She unlocked her phone, noticing it had started to lag from the overload. When she forced the messaging app open, even more messages came in, one right after another.

Every single one was a verification code—sent from a bunch of weird, random sites Bonnie had never even heard of. In just a minute, she’d gotten at least a hundred.

A coworker wandered over to peek at her phone, surprise written on his face. “Did you sign up for some sketchy site or something, Bonnie? Or maybe you ticked off a scammer? They can run a program to drown you in messages. It happened to me once! I cussed the scammer out so bad, and right after I hung up, my phone blew up just like this.”

Another colleague chimed in, “Yeah, my friend got the same treatment. Scammer called about a loan, he hung up, then they just spammed him with calls and texts nonstop. These people are unbelievable.”

Their stories set off a round of chatter, everyone eager to share their horror stories. Bonnie just listened, but deep down she knew her situation was different.

This wasn’t some random mess-up. It felt personal, just like the trash someone left at her door. Not meant to hurt her physically, but piled on bit by bit to wear her down. A cruel reminder that someone was out there, watching… hoping she’d just disappear from Cabinda. That would be the only way for this to end.

Bonnie squeezed her phone, willing herself to stay calm. “I think I hung up on a scam call. Is there any way to stop this?” she asked.

Her coworker just spun his chair back toward his desk, unconcerned. “It costs money on their end, so they usually get bored and stop after a while. If it’s bugging you, you could turn off notifications. If it gets bad, call your phone company and have them block the texts… but then you won’t get anything else, either.”
