Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 155

Staring at the registration page, Bonnie couldn’t stop replaying what Ralph said at the police station.

Leave Cabinda? Was that what they all wanted?

The thought made her laugh, almost out loud. If she ever left this city, it wouldn’t be because she was scared or trying to run away. The only reason she’d ever pack up and go was if somewhere else offered the kind of life she really wanted, somewhere she could finally do the things she’d always dreamed of.

She wouldn’t stay just for someone. She wouldn’t leave just because of someone, either.

She used to be on the fence about applying for grad school. But suddenly, this moment felt right. Today was the last day to sign up, as if the universe was shoving her forward.

So, why not? What did she have to lose?

...

The next morning, on her way out the door for work, Bonnie was extra careful. She checked the feed on her door camera, scrolling through the latest recordings, making sure nothing was off before she let herself relax.

Everything looked normal. When she got to the gate of her apartment complex, the security guard called her over to explain that, because of yesterday’s incident, management wanted all delivery drivers double-checked for a while.

They had to show their tickets, prove the deliveries were real before going inside.

Bonnie thanked him, but the worry clung to her, following her all the way to the office.

Stressing over it wouldn’t change a thing. She was stuck on the defensive, left with nothing solid in her hands. Whenever something reached beyond the country’s borders, the police struggled to investigate, and cases could drag on forever. Anything could happen in that time, and once it did, there was no way to fix it.

Right now, all Bonnie could do was be extra careful, take things as they came. If anything happened, she’d call the police. If new clues came up, she’d follow them.

She thought about reaching out to Odette and Carl. From her memory, they seemed like fair people, reasonable, not the type to take sides without thinking.
