Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 160

A printed anonymous letter sat on the solid wood coffee table in front of Nestor.

It had been sent to the company's main email and got straight to the point. The sender wanted Bonnie from Cabinda School of Architecture and Design fired, calling her a homewrecker with no morals.

Bonnie's fingers tightened around the paper. “Nestor, this isn’t true. Someone’s been harassing me nonstop. I’ve already reported it to the police. It’s just someone out for revenge.”

Nestor gently took the letter from her, walked over to the shredder, and fed the pages through. “I’ve already explained the situation to management. They’re not going to listen to rumors from outside. But Bonnie, it’s not just this. Lately, people have been sending in reports about us—accusing the firm of bid rigging, tax evasion, and using pirated software. None of it comes with real evidence. Nothing’s really stuck, but it’s still something we have to be careful about. Your personal stuff can’t be allowed to cause problems for the company, understand?”

Bonnie closed her eyes for a moment. She wanted to tell him she was doing her best, that she never meant for any of this to happen, but the words caught in her throat. Suddenly, she remembered the little confirmation message that said she’d successfully registered for the grad school entrance exam. Right then, Bonnie made up her mind.

All the chaos lately had left her too unsettled to study. At work, she was distracted and nervous, never fully focused. Instead of splitting her time and energy between work and studying, maybe it was smarter to take the next two months and give the exam her all. Her chances would be so much better that way.

And if she stuck around, her problems might hurt the company, or worse, start rumors that spread even further. If she left now, there’d be less damage.

Bonnie straightened up and met Nestor’s eyes, her voice steadier than she expected. “Nestor, I know things have been a mess lately and I appreciate you letting me know, but I’ve actually had a change of plans. I want to resign so I can prepare for grad school full-time.”

For a moment, Nestor seemed surprised. “I wasn’t telling you this just so you’d quit. If you need help, you can come to the company. Don’t make a snap decision. It’s hard to find a good job these days, and the market is rough. Leaving like this might be too rushed.”

Bonnie had always liked the peace of working there. But deep down, she knew it really was time to go. Something told her even bigger storms were coming, ones she just wasn’t ready to face.

She didn’t want to risk causing more hassle or dragging her team into any more trouble. Leaving now was the best way to solve things once and for all. Maybe then, her life could finally clear up and let some light in.

Back at her workstation, Bonnie noticed a few colleagues had already left. Helen, as usual, had wasted no time—on Fridays she was either off to see Ned for a date or joining him for dinner with one of their families.

Bonnie powered down her computer and sent Helen a quick message: I’m resigning.
