Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 184

Lawrence sat in the dark the whole night, waiting for the sun to come up.

His mind wouldn’t settle. He kept drifting back to high school, to the first time he saw Bonnie. She was standing on stage with her violin, looking distant and cool, not even a hint of a smile. When she lowered her head and started to play, there was something about the way her eyelashes fluttered, the way she moved with the music, that just hooked him instantly.

He fell for her at that moment, hard, but neither of them had the time or the right age for a real relationship. School always came first, and so those feelings just lingered quietly in the background.

When Bonnie started at The Cabinda University, Lawrence knew right away—his old crush was now his junior. During military training, he would make up excuses to go play basketball near the field, just so he could spot her in the crowd.

All the girls wore the same uniform, but he always found Bonnie right away. She stood out in the sun, pale as a pearl and untouched by the heat, beads of sweat sparkling at the tip of her nose. That delicate look just made her seem even more untouchable.

Guys often tried their luck with her on the way to the dining hall after training, asking for her WeChat. But Bonnie would always look so cold, so unapproachable, she could freeze anyone with just a glance, no matter how hot it was outside.

Lawrence worried he might get the cold shoulder too, so he didn't try to get her number directly. Instead, he plotted a way to get her interested in the student union during recruitment, figuring maybe they'd get to know each other in a group setting.

But things didn’t go by the script. On the last day of military training, he ran into her on the road by pure chance.

When he nervously asked if she’d like to go out for a ride together, Lawrence could barely focus on anything except the rush of his own heartbeat, loud and wild in his ears.

He’d never expected Bonnie to agree, but she did. She said yes—to a ride, and to giving him a whole month.

During that month, Lawrence put his heart into it. He’d never chased a girl before; he didn’t have any of those sweet lines or smooth moves. Normally, he never minded what he said, but when it came to Bonnie, every word felt like it counted for everything. He was terrified he’d say the wrong thing and ruin it all.
