Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 185

Their love began just like that, turning sweeter and sweeter each day. Looking back, Lawrence felt like he had been living in a jar of honey, buzzing with so much energy that doing anything for Bonnie made him happy, even if it meant running errands and cooking like her personal assistant.

For months, his friends—Quentin and the rest—hardly saw him. When they finally showed up at his place, they ended up catching Lawrence and Bonnie on their way back from the store, arms full of groceries.

That evening, Lawrence cooked up a feast for his astonished friends. After everyone went home, Bonnie fell into his arms, laughing so hard her belly hurt. She joked that training a privileged rich boy into the perfect househusband gave her a huge sense of accomplishment.

Lawrence pulled her close and kissed her gently, swearing he’d be her devoted helper for the rest of his life. He wouldn’t wish for anything else.

But when you’re young, it’s so easy to make promises you can’t keep. One person is bold enough to promise, the other innocent enough to believe. Sweet words spill out without a second thought. People charge headfirst towards love, ready to risk it all, even if it means getting burned.

They didn’t have what it took to face the unknown or handle real-world troubles. They forgot that the comfort of happiness is always shadowed by things waiting to go wrong.

Everything good between them crashed to a stop once Hannah came into the picture, bringing with her a mess of arguments and pain. When Lawrence’s responsibilities to his family and his guilt over Hannah started weighing more than anything else, all those bright, dreamy moments with Bonnie just vanished, dissolving on the flight that took him to America.

Sometimes he wondered—if he’d been older back then, just a bit more selfish, maybe things would have turned out differently. Maybe he and Bonnie wouldn’t have ended up like this.

Maybe he could have avoided those three long, miserable years—unable to help Hannah, unable to win Bonnie back, pushing himself to the edge and, once again, breaking the new, happier Bonnie who had finally escaped him.

Every direction felt like a dead end. He was trapped, no way out.

Lawrence almost collapsed. He knelt beside the bed, jaw clenched, fighting the urge to ram his head into the wall or drag a knife across his skin. Maybe if his body hurt enough, his heart would stop aching.
