Jasper wriggled closer and pressed a loud, playful kiss on Hannah’s cheek.

Hannah laughed, her voice light and ringing. “Don’t forget Daddy. He’s practically melting from holding you.”

“Daddy!” Jasper shouted, then gave Lawrence a quick kiss on the face.

Jasper’s lips were cool, instantly turning Lawrence’s sweaty skin cold, the chill sinking straight to his bones. He fought the urge to look over at Bonnie, struggling to keep steady, his body swaying just a little.

Bonnie looked away, focusing on the view outside. She finished her coffee in one swift drink and ate the last bite of cake, her expression unreadable.

Felton leaned across the table, keeping his voice low and curious. “Hey, is that your friend? She looks familiar. Is she famous or something?”

Bonnie’s reply was calm. “Kind of. She’s a ballet dancer. Maybe you’ve seen her perform somewhere.”

It finally clicked for Felton, and his eyes lit up. “Oh, that’s her? Now I remember! My ex… well, my ex-girlfriend loved watching that kind of stuff. She even sent me one of her videos once.”

Realizing he’d brought up his ex without thinking, Felton felt awkward. But Bonnie didn’t flinch or look the slightest bit bothered. Her calm was unshakable.

Wanting to change the mood, Felton said, “Let’s head out. If we go now, we’ll get to the movie right on time.”

Bonnie nodded, picking up her bag and phone. She never looked back at the cozy little family scene behind her, just walked calmly toward the exit.

Felton glanced her way. “Want to grab snacks or drinks for the movie? Let me know your favorites—I’ll get them.”

Bonnie shook her head. She didn’t want anything.

All she wanted was to put some distance between herself and this place, watch a cartoon, and let her mind unwind for a while.

At the table, Hannah took a spoon and fed ice cream to her son. She realized that as soon as Bonnie left, Lawrence seemed to let out a silent breath. His face carried a mix of relief and that quiet pain he thought no one could see.
