Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 28

Bonnie spotted the family of three again while she was riding up the escalator. They ended up trailing them all the way into the movie theater.

Once Bonnie and Felton collected their tickets, she saw Hannah at the counter, buying two of her own. Then Hannah walked back, looping her arm around Lawrence and leaning her head on his shoulder, radiating happiness.

“Honey, it’s *Toy Story*. Remember when we caught the premiere in New York? We talked about how we should’ve brought our son. Now we can finally make it up to him.”

Lawrence didn’t react. He just shut his eyes for a second, took a deep breath, and opened them again. “Let’s go in.”

Bonnie rubbed her left ear, her face composed as she led Felton to the ticket check. When the usher tore off the stub, the sound echoed in her ear like something ripping inside her. It stung, sharp and sudden.

Hannah was definitely trying to send a message. It was subtle, but obvious at the same time.

Bonnie hadn’t realized that being the ex-girlfriend still gave her this kind of power, enough to get under Hannah’s skin. Hannah, usually so graceful and collected, couldn’t resist getting in a couple of digs.

It was almost funny, how threatened she seemed.

By sheer coincidence, their seats were in two adjacent rows.

If Bonnie let her eyes drift down, she could see Hannah resting on Lawrence’s shoulder. His jawline lined up perfectly with her head, just brushing the tips of her hair.

Their little boy sat wedged between them, lively and adorable with big curious eyes. For a kid just past two, he was surprisingly quiet, not fussing or asking for anything, just taking everything in.

Bonnie’s mind wandered.

Years ago, Lawrence never would’ve brought her to an ordinary movie theater like this. He was into private screenings, or just watching movies at home.

But she had always loved Disney animations. He had sat through all three *Toy Story* movies with her, more times than he probably cared to remember.

He used to ask why she liked Woody so much.

Maybe it was because Woody was an “old-school good guy,” she’d told him once. Just an average, breakable toy, yet also a bright, brave hero.
