Lawrence handed the paternity test report to Jackson. "Do you know why I had Hannah moved out of the psychiatric hospital?"
Jackson's lips parted, but no sound came out. His hands shook uncontrollably as he flipped open the folder.
"I installed a few recording devices in the sanitarium," Lawrence said, his tone eerily calm. "I heard everything."
At first, Hannah had refused to speak to him. The audio files were filled with nothing but Jackson's endless rambling.
He talked about their childhood—practicing dance together, performing on stage, winning their first award as a duo. He reminisced about the joy and glory of their past until his voice choked with emotion.
But Hannah never gave him a single word in response.
That was until Jasper visited. That night, Jackson asked her if she truly loved Lawrence so much that she would sacrifice her own life and child for him.
He blamed himself, saying that if he hadn't lost his mind that night, getting drunk and sleeping with her, things wouldn't have ended up like this.
That was when Hannah finally broke her silence. Her voice was raspy, hollowed out by disuse. She told him to shut up.
In the past, Jackson would never have dared to bring up the secret she had ordered him to take to his grave. But seeing Jasper had shattered his psychological defenses.
He was the boy's biological father, a truth that should have been celebrated, yet he had hidden it for three agonizing years.
