Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 322

Bonnie stared down at her lap, silently weighing her options.

Finding this puppy had been a complete surprise, but the timing of Lawrence showing up at that exact moment had completely derailed her plans.

The puppy was tiny and sick, making it incredibly impractical to drag around during a move.

Seeing her hesitate, Lawrence panicked, terrified she might think he was using the dog as a manipulative excuse to force his way back into her life.

"Bonnie," he blurted out, "my transfer to Oasinia was a corporate decision approved by the board of directors. I swear, I didn't come here to intrude on your life."

Even as the words left his mouth, a wave of defeat washed over him. He claimed he wasn't intruding, yet here he was, sitting right beside her.

He scrambled to soften the blow. "I really just came today to wish you a happy graduation and give you some flowers. I planned to drop them off and leave immediately. Honestly."

He took a steadying breath. "And... I wanted to thank you in person. Bonnie, if it weren't for you, I'd probably be dead right now. A 'thank you' like that had to be said face-to-face."

Lawrence stared at her intently, his voice pulled tight like a wire. "Thank you, Bonnie."

He swallowed hard. "I'm not involved in the decision-making for the Magnolia Group project, either. I had no idea about it before I got here."

A cautious, almost fragile look flickered in his eyes. "If you don't feel comfortable leaving the puppy with me, I can help you find a good boarding facility—"

Hearing his rushed, desperate confession, Bonnie couldn't help but let out a soft laugh, cutting him off. "I know. You don't have to explain yourself."

If he truly wanted to intrude, he wouldn't have waited three long years to make a move.

"And you don't need to thank me," she continued softly. "Even though our breakup was ugly and left a lot of scars... honestly, I couldn't just stand by and watch you die."

Bonnie met his gaze with absolute candor. "We can't be a couple anymore, but we don't have to be enemies, either. Maybe just being one of many friends wouldn't be so bad."

Lawrence was struck by the clear, open light in her eyes. A complex knot of emotions tightened in his chest—a bittersweet ache, intertwined with a sudden surge of pride.

Before moving, Lawrence had sat his parents down. He told them he loved Bonnie, but he had no hidden agenda to scheme his way back into her heart. It was just a twist of fate that his career was bringing him to Oasinia.

He just wanted to see her once, say thank you, and then retreat to whatever boundary she set for him.

But he also made it clear that he could never love anyone else. He told his parents to prepare for the reality that he might spend the rest of his life alone.

Having nearly lost him once, his family fully supported whatever choice brought him peace.

Thinking of this, a sense of quiet relief settled over him. Lawrence looked deep into Bonnie's eyes and gave her a genuine, heartfelt smile. "You're right. We're friends."

Bonnie knew they weren't the same shattered people from three years ago, nor were they the naive, starry-eyed kids from before.

They had truly grown up. They had moved on.

With a warm smile, she gently lifted the puppy and placed it in Lawrence's hands. "Then I'll have to trouble you to watch him for a few days. I'll come pick him up as soon as I'm settled into my new place."
