Bonnie tore into the foolish boy before immediately looking back up at Lawrence's bloody lip. She couldn't help but ask, "Are you okay? Did he chip a tooth?"
Lawrence gently wiped the blood away, a secret thrill blooming in his chest at her concern. He looked directly into her eyes and shook his head seriously. "I'm fine. It's just a scratch."
Bonnie paused, avoiding his intense gaze, and turned her furious glare back to Perry.
Looking deeply wronged, Perry shuffled over and wrapped his arms around the swaying Yvonne to support her.
His face was as red as a tomato. It was obvious he had put away plenty of drinks himself.
Bonnie's tone turned sharp. "Why are you throwing punches without even knowing what's going on?! Apologize to my friend!"
Through his alcohol-fogged brain, Perry finally realized the man he had just clocked wasn't his formidable romantic rival.
He really had hit the wrong person.
But it wasn't entirely his fault.
He had been sitting at the table right next to Bonnie and Yvonne tonight. The two tables were only separated by a flimsy decorative bookshelf that blocked zero sound. Perry had heard every single word of Yvonne's tragic love story loud and clear.
Drowning in the despair of his own unrequited feelings, he drank far too much. When he walked outside and saw Yvonne pointing a finger in some guy's face and screaming about a jerk, he naturally assumed it was the ex. The adrenaline and alcohol took over, and he threw the punch.
He awkwardly mumbled, "I'm sorry."
Lawrence's gaze drifted over Perry and the woman in his arms before looking away. "It's fine."
"Have you really been... following us all night?" Bonnie rubbed her throbbing forehead.
Perry looked even more defensive. "Bonnie, I was worried it wasn't safe for two women to be drinking alone, so I tagged along. Look at the time, and look at how wasted you both are! Is this appropriate? What if some innocent guy got hurt by your drunken antics? Could you take responsibility for that?!"
