Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 338

Lawrence carried a plastic bag full of cold drinks up the stairs, taking his time to evaluate the environment inside The Heritage Villa.

It was much cleaner and safer than he had anticipated. The wiring and plumbing appeared to have been recently updated, with no signs of hazardous, outdated fixtures. The first-floor tenant's door was decorated with cute, fluffy ornaments.

There was also a dog leash and muzzle hanging on a hook outside.

It was definitely a woman who owned a dog.

Lawrence skipped the second floor and took a quick peek at the third. There was a shoe rack outside the door holding both men's and women's shoes, likely belonging to a couple.

Overall, the living environment was simple, quiet, and highly secure.

Satisfied, he headed back down to the second floor. Bonnie was settling the bill with the two movers. Lawrence handed the men their drinks and thanked them for their hard work.

The movers, who were men of few words, assumed they were a couple. Appreciating his polite attitude, they kindly offered to carry the massive delivery boxes from the hallway into the apartment.

Bonnie was hunched over, slicing open boxes with a box cutter, while June zipped around her ankles. Without even looking back, she called out, "Lawrence, can you grab the rest of the packages outside?"

"On it," he replied easily. He hauled the remaining boxes inside and shut the door, eyeing the heavy cardboard. "What did you buy? This is heavy. From now on, just tell the delivery guys to leave it outside the door. I'll come by and install a security camera for you later."

"The smart lock has a built-in camera, that's enough," Bonnie said, slicing open a heavy box full of books. Out of pure, ingrained habit, she casually ordered, "Lawrence, can you put the desk and shoe cabinet together for me? Oh, and there's a bookshelf and a sideboard..."

She froze mid-sentence, suddenly realizing how entirely natural that had felt. But the words were already out, and she couldn't take them back. She had no choice but to pretend everything was totally normal.

She had seen the videos he sent. June's absolute favorite toy was a plush carrot. She even pinned it down with her paws when she slept.

"Go dig it out," Lawrence laughed. "It's in the black duffel bag, covered in her drool."

Bonnie dug through the bag, pinched the green leaves of the carrot in disgust, and chucked it toward the balcony. June's stubby legs scrambled across the floor as she chased after it, happily entertaining herself.

Out of the corner of her eye, Bonnie noticed pieces of styrofoam stuck in Lawrence's hair. She bit her lip, pretended not to see it, and went back to work. She opened a box, hung her clothes up one by one, and spread a fresh set of sheets over the mattress.

As the furniture fell into place, the empty apartment quickly began to look like a real home.

They exchanged a few casual words here and there, but mostly, they worked in comfortable silence. He carefully studied the instruction manuals to build her furniture, while she meticulously decorated her new sanctuary.
