Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 339

For lunch, they ordered takeout and sat on the floor next to the coffee table Bonnie had just draped a new cloth over.

The apartment wasn't massive, but it was plenty spacious for one person. However, with Lawrence's broad shoulders and long legs cramped into the space, the room instantly felt a lot smaller.

June, ever the glutton, kept aggressively circling them, begging for food. Lawrence quickly finished his meal, scooped the puppy up, and locked her inside a playpen on the balcony with fresh water and kibble before returning to his tools.

Listening to the steady clinking of metal, layered with the rustling of leaves outside the window, Bonnie felt an inexplicable sense of peace and tranquility wash over her.

It was a feeling so familiar, yet so deeply buried in the past, that it anchored her completely in this new, foreign environment.

In the past, no matter where they went, Lawrence was always the one doing the heavy lifting. He handled every detail meticulously, never complaining about being tired, leaving Bonnie to happily relax and enjoy the ride.

She never expected that after so many years apart, they would fall right back into that exact same, effortless rhythm, working side by side without a shred of awkwardness.

"Bonnie, do you have a microfiber cloth? Let me borrow it for a second."

His voice shattered her reverie.

She snapped back to reality, dug out her sunglasses case, and pulled out the cleaning cloth. When she saw his hands were covered in dust and grease, she pulled her hand back.

Without a word, she reached over, gently slipped the glasses off his face, and meticulously wiped the lenses clean.

Lawrence froze. Even after she slipped the glasses back onto the bridge of his nose, he remained completely paralyzed, staring at her in shock.

Bonnie didn't even look at his dumbfounded expression. She calmly turned around and went right back to unpacking.

The seamless harmony they had just shared was instantly replaced by a palpable, suffocating tension they both recognized but refused to acknowledge.

Lawrence didn't dare breathe too heavily. He kept the noise of his tools to an absolute minimum, entirely abandoning their casual banter and completely ignoring the restless puppy whining on the balcony.

He was terrified of making her mad.
