Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 379

Thinking she was incredibly cute, Lawrence couldn't resist ruffling her hair one more time. He laughed and scooped up June. "Let's go, time to eat. We hike after lunch, and after the hike, Mommy has to go back to the drawing board!"

June was forced to abandon her chew toy, whining as she was leashed and pulled out of the SUV. Bonnie followed close behind, carrying only her thermos.

Lawrence hauled a small cooler of fresh crabs and a few other ingredients with one hand, walking June with the other.

He had reserved a table in advance. The inn's owner took the cooler straight to the kitchen to prep, while Lawrence tethered June to the leg of the table so she wouldn't bother the other diners.

Bonnie fed the dog some snacks while they waited, and it didn't take long for the kitchen to start bringing out the food.

Between the fresh ingredients they brought and the chef's obvious skill, every single dish was phenomenal. Bonnie ate so much she was genuinely stuffed.

But there was still food left, and she hated wasting it. Frowning, she tried to force herself to take another bite, but a hand suddenly reached over and swiped her half-finished bowl of rice.

He also grabbed the crab she had only taken a single bite of.

Lawrence had accurately gauged that she had reached her limit—a skill he had perfected after sharing countless meals with her.

Because of that, he never ate too fast, always pacing himself to finish off whatever she couldn't.

"Don't force it. You finally got your stomach issues under control; you need to be careful with how much you eat."

Resting her chin in her hand, Bonnie watched as he cleared the rest of the plates. He didn't eat like he was starving, but he wasn't overly delicate about it either. Watching him eat just made food look good.

Back when they were dating, Bonnie's appetite had increased just from eating with him.

But Lawrence had always complained that his weight was increasing.

So, after they started dating, they actually had to work out more, getting up early to jog off all the extra calories they were consuming.

She quietly studied his face for a moment. He had lost the boyish charm of his youth, replacing it with the sharp, striking aura of a mature man.

Still, dressed in a sleek black, heavily outdoor-styled windbreaker today, he easily looked a few years younger.

Would every version of Lawrence take care of her with such meticulous attention to detail?

But right now, she wasn't stressing over the future. Being happy in the present moment was more than enough.

Noticing her staring, Lawrence swallowed the last piece of crab meat and put his spoon down. Raising an eyebrow, he teased, "Can't stop staring? Am I just that strikingly handsome?"

Her nostalgic train of thought derailed instantly. She reflexively rolled her eyes, prompting a deep laugh from him that eventually made her crack a smile, too.

"Narcissist!" she shot back.

Lawrence just smiled and got up to pay the bill.

Leading June outside the inn's front door, they walked into the courtyard only to realize the previously clear sky was starting to cloud over.

It had rained on and off for the past few days, and with all the mountains nearby, the weather was notoriously fickle.
