Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 392

Bonnie felt feather-light kisses grazing her skin, sparking a tingling warmth that seeped straight into her heart, making it race with sudden panic.

The man holding and kissing her was the person who had once been her most intimate lover, yet right now, she felt inexplicably nervous.

A deep flush crept across her face.

Bundled in her heavy parka, Bonnie's arms were wrapped tight around his waist through his thin shirt. She couldn't help but grip his clothes tighter. Lawrence cupped her face, sweeping his thumbs across her cheeks to wipe away the last of her tears.

His control was slipping. His breathing grew ragged, and he leaned in, on the verge of claiming her lips.

Bonnie quickly shut her eyes and opened them again, lifting a hand to press against his mouth. They were so close that only the thin barrier of her palm kept their lips apart.

Their breaths mingled in the crisp air.

She glared at him, a mix of reproach and shyness in her eyes. "Aren't you getting a little carried away? It hasn't even been a quarter of our three-month probation period. What exactly do you think you're doing?"

Lawrence's lips brushed against her chilled palm. He brought his hand up to cover hers, trying to warm it. His voice was muffled and laced with grievance. "But I really want to kiss you, Candie. I've wanted to kiss you for a long time."

His blunt, raw confession made her face burn scarlet. She dodged his gaze and pushed at his chest. Lawrence pressed a firm kiss to the center of her palm before finally letting her go.

The temporary prefab room was starkly furnished—just a bed, a desk, and a simple wardrobe. Lawrence's luggage sat in the corner. Bonnie urged him to unpack and get some early rest.

Though Lawrence hated to see her leave, he couldn't push his luck under the circumstances. He insisted on walking her back to her room.

As they walked side by side, the short distance back suddenly sparked a wave of reluctance in Bonnie's chest.

It felt exactly like those college days when he would walk her back to her dorm, the two of them lingering downstairs, neither willing to say goodbye.

The senior engineers were getting older, and many of her colleagues were suffering from severe altitude sickness. Bonnie had taken on as much of the workload as she possibly could to ease their burden.

For the past few nights, she had been staying up incredibly late.

Lawrence, meanwhile, hadn't slept in over twenty-four hours. He barely managed to wash up before collapsing onto the bed. He had wanted to stay awake and talk to her, but just having her nearby made him drop his guard completely. He managed to mumble her name before passing out.

Bonnie hummed a distracted response without turning around. When silence stretched on, she finally looked over, only to find him fast asleep.

He was a quiet sleeper. He never snored or tossed around. In the past, he used to hold her, staying in the exact same position until dawn. At first, she hadn't been used to it and was terrified to move, knowing the slightest shift would wake him.

But once she got used to it, she found it impossible to sleep without him there.

Bonnie let go of the mouse, walked over, and tucked the blankets securely around him. She reached out, her fingertips lightly tracing the exhausted lines of his brow.
