Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 393

How could she not know how exhausting this period had been for him? She knew he didn't even need to be in Highvale. She understood all of it.

Leaning over, Bonnie brushed her lips against his in a fleeting, tender kiss.

"Goodnight, Lawrence."

...

After making it through the brutal initial adjustment phase, most of the team got back to normal, and some of Bonnie's workload was redistributed.

The crushing pressure finally eased up.

Lawrence, however, wasn't so lucky. His right-hand man, Abbot, had been delayed in Cloudspire for over a week before finally reaching Highvale. During that time, Lawrence had to juggle local relief coordination while simultaneously managing the company's massive operations back in Oasinia.

Thankfully, with satellite phones and the gradual restoration of power and communications, things were progressing smoothly.

But the toll was visible—he had lost a noticeable amount of weight.

Bonnie had too.

The harsh high-altitude sun had tanned them both, but seeing the joy of survival and the hope of rebuilding on everyone's faces made the hardship completely worth it.

At the very least, they were giving it their all to help.

A month after the quake, the search, rescue, and relocation efforts were officially over. The disaster zones were now in the cleanup and maintenance phase. The biggest challenge ahead was the plummeting temperature.

November marked the beginning of Highvale's brutal winter. During the dry season and early winter, temperatures dropped drastically, the temperature swing between day and night was extreme, and gale-force winds were relentless.

The climate was downright hostile.

Concrete construction had been temporarily halted. When a new batch of supplies arrived, Bonnie set aside her blueprints and went with Dale and the others to help pitch tents in the resettlement area.

She was bundled up tightly, but the biting cold still seemed to seep right into her bones. At night, she had to huddle close to Yvonne just to stay warm.

During the day, whenever Lawrence was around, she treated him like a human space heater, leaning against him at every opportunity.

Lawrence had just laughed, an unreserved, ear-to-ear grin.

It was sickeningly sweet.

Yvonne had stood there dumbfounded, while Bonnie's face flushed crimson.

Bonnie had dragged her out of the room immediately. When Yvonne teased her, saying she should just lock a man like that down, Bonnie stubbornly insisted he was still on "probation."

She was so prideful.

Yvonne rarely saw her best friend act this way, and it was always because of Lawrence. Anyone could see how deeply Bonnie relied on him.

With him around, Bonnie could comfortably let her guard down and just be cared for.

Yvonne nudged her again. "If you ask me, probation periods can be cut short for good behavior. Just put the man out of his misery already."
