Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 406

Once they made it back, her cell phone finally picked up a signal.

An avalanche of notifications flooded in—frantic messages from family and friends checking on her. Sitting on the folding cot in his quarters, she patiently replied to each one, letting them know she was safe.

Helen had forwarded her a news article. Unbelievably, it featured a photo of her and Lawrence locked in their passionate kiss, sensationally titled "The Kiss Amidst the Ruins" by the editor.

The article even detailed their roles in the relief effort.

It dubbed them "The Frontier's Golden Couple."

Skimming through the comment section, which was overwhelmingly filled with warm blessings, she flushed bright red and shot him a playful glare. Lawrence, entirely unbothered by whatever was on her screen, took her glance as an invitation and leaned in for another kiss.

Once his lips touched hers, he refused to stop. Pressing her hands against his chest, she barely managed to push him back. "Let me clean up your hands first. Stop messing around," she scolded softly.

Nipping playfully at her lower lip, he murmured a low, agreeable hum.

She couldn't handle him when he was this relentlessly affectionate. "I'm so embarrassed because of you. The entire working group is making fun of me," she muttered.

As she spoke, she gently lifted his hands, using saline solution to rinse the wounds. Seeing his normally elegant, capable hands in such a battered state made her chest ache.

Cuts and scrapes of all sizes covered his skin, caked in a mix of mud and dried blood. Several nails were split, and tiny fragments of gravel were still embedded in some of the deeper gashes.

"What were you thinking? The search and rescue teams were there. Why did you have to play the hero?" she scolded, genuine frustration mixing with her worry.

Drawing a sharp breath, he leaned in to steal another kiss. "In that moment, my brain completely short-circuited. The only command firing in my head was 'dig'."

Her eyes rimmed with red, instantly draining her of any desire to reprimand him further. As she washed away the grime, the severity of the cuts became glaringly obvious.

She painstakingly removed the embedded debris. He didn't make a single sound the entire time, terrified that if she thought he was in pain, she would start crying again.
