Maybe they'd even have a kid calling him Daddy by now.
"I'm doing really well," Bonnie replied, pulling Aiken sharply out of his thoughts.
She smiled, completely open and relaxed. "After grad school, I stayed in Oasinia for a while. Then I joined an aid project out in Highvale. It was a really fulfilling experience. This year, I finally moved back to Cabinda to start my own firm."
"I also got engaged," Bonnie added smoothly. "The wedding is set for next year." She paused for a beat. "To Lawrence."
A flicker of shock darted across Aiken's eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a sense of quiet inevitability. Aiken was fully aware of the final verdict in Bonnie's cyberbullying case.
He knew exactly how severe the sentences were. The mastermind, Hannah, had been slammed with a ten-year prison sentence. Not only that, but she had confessed to everything online, coldly detailing how she had weaponized morality and family loyalty to destroy innocent people.
When Aiken saw that video and finally understood the horrifying truth behind everything that happened years ago, he instantly had a gut feeling. With the toxic obstacles completely removed, it was only a matter of time before Bonnie and Lawrence found their way back to each other.
Even his own mother, his sister, and random internet commenters had said the same thing. Once the tragic lovers survived the storm and the villains were punished, it was guaranteed they wouldn't be able to stay away from each other.
Whether it was because of deep-rooted love or an absolute refusal to let fate win, no one else could ever wedge themselves between those two.
Even if they ultimately broke up again, they had to be the ones to make that call. No one else could make it for them.
That was the exact moment Aiken realized he had never truly stepped into Bonnie's heart, let alone stood a chance of replacing the man she loved the most.
Looking at how radiant she was now, he knew she was happy.
After surviving so much hell, Lawrence was undoubtedly spoiling her rotten, moving heaven and earth to compensate for all their lost time.
As long as Bonnie was happy, that was enough.
Aiken looked at her with genuine warmth. "Congratulations. Make sure to send me an invitation. If I'm not out on a mission, I'll definitely be there."
