Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 478

Lawrence arched an eyebrow, radiating absolute confidence. "Don't trust me?"

It wasn't that Bonnie didn't trust him. She had just never done anything remotely like this. Even on the highway, whenever he accelerated, she felt like they were flying. On a professional track, they'd practically be airborne.

But backing down now would make her look totally pathetic. A tiny spark of competitive pride flared in her chest. She lifted her chin defiantly. "Fine, one lap. I'm not scared."

Lawrence chuckled, reaching over to lightly pat the top of her head. "Relax. I'm just giving you a taste of the speed. It's totally safe."

Bonnie nodded, though she involuntarily stiffened in her seat, her knuckles turning white around her seatbelt. Lawrence let out a low, rumbling laugh, rolled down his window, and signaled to the track staff.

They brought over two helmets. Lawrence leaned in to help her secure hers. With her small face framed by the open visor, her large eyes blinked up at him, unblinking and utterly focused.

Lawrence's heart skipped a beat, and a wholly inappropriate, traitorous thought flashed through his mind.

God, I want to kiss her.

Oblivious to the internal crisis he was having, Bonnie just felt a little flustered by his intense stare. His hands still lingered on her helmet, practically cradling her face in his palms.

"Let go," she mumbled softly.

Snapped back to reality, Lawrence's ears burned bright red. He offered a low cough to cover his guilt, sat back, quickly strapped his own helmet on, and steered the car toward the starting line.

A heavy silence filled the cabin. Neither of them could tell what was louder—the throaty roar of the engine or the frantic hammering of their own hearts.

The moment the car launched forward, slamming Bonnie back into her seat with explosive G-force, all thoughts of romance vanished. Her entire world narrowed down to the blurring asphalt and the man behind the wheel.

It was insanely fast.

She wanted to scream, but the sound died in her throat. One hand desperately gripped the seatbelt, the other seized the overhead handle. As they tore through a vicious turn, Bonnie felt an out-of-body sensation, completely devoid of control.

Blood rushed to her head. As the car snapped out of a drift, throwing her weight in the opposite direction, she finally let out a muffled shriek against the visor of her helmet.

Because beneath the thrill, she was still mostly just scared.

Bonnie forced her eyes open and whispered, "My legs are jelly."

Realizing she was literally trembling, Lawrence hopped out, walked around the car, and leaned into the passenger side. Resting a hand on the roof above her head, he asked softly, "Want me to carry you?"

Her eyelashes fluttered before she gave a frantic, disjointed nod. Lawrence slipped one arm around her back and the other under her knees, effortlessly lifting her out of the low-slung car.

He carried her with long, purposeful strides into the VIP lounge. The staff had already set up food and drinks, discreetly slipping out and closing the door behind them as they entered.

He set her down gently on the sofa and sat right beside her. "Don't panic, it'll pass. I was the exact same way my first time."

He handed her a glass of water, coaxing her to take a few sips. The cool liquid helped ground her, and slowly, her heart rate began to return to normal.
