Teasing Bonnie had backfired entirely. By the time Lawrence was locked inside the bathroom, he hadn’t managed to get a single word out of her.
Her face was tight with obvious anger, offering him nothing but the back of her head. No matter how much he tried to sweet-talk her, it was completely useless.
He rubbed his nose, sheepishly stepping into the bathroom. Just before shutting the door, he called out, "Goodnight, Candie."
She ignored him completely, snapping off the lights and plunging the room into pitch-black darkness.
A glass window separated the bathroom from the guest room. Lawrence stood there quietly for a moment before lowering the blinds, shutting off his only view of her.
He lay down in the bathtub, fully clothed, with one blanket padded beneath him and another pulled over his chest.
Despite the less-than-ideal sleeping arrangements, he actually felt a strange surge of happiness.
If he could just get through tonight, tomorrow would be the final day of their trial period. He had a strong feeling that she would finally agree to be his girlfriend.
There was no reason for her to reject him. He was absolutely certain she had already fallen for him.
With that comforting thought, Lawrence drifted into a satisfied sleep.
Out in the bedroom, Bonnie curled up under the covers, completely wide awake. A pang of regret hit her for making him sleep in the tub. The porcelain was freezing, and even with the blankets, it couldn't possibly be comfortable.
But then again, sleeping on the floor wouldn't be much better.
Ultimately, she just wasn't ready to share a bed with a guy yet, so Lawrence would simply have to tough it out for the night.
It was his own fault for messing up the hotel reservation anyway.
She rolled over, the crisp hotel sheets rustling loudly in the quiet room.
After tossing and turning a few more times, she quietly slipped out of bed. Tiptoeing to the bathroom door, she flicked on her phone's flashlight, illuminating the doorknob she had rigged earlier.
