The sudden movement scared them half to death. Bonnie nearly screamed as Lawrence swiftly shoved her behind him protectively.
Once their eyes adjusted, they realized it was Ned.
A thoroughly exhausted Ned, sporting massive dark circles under his eyes.
They both exhaled sharply. Bonnie stepped out from behind Lawrence, exasperated. "Ned, what are you..."
"Bonnie, can you go get Helen for me?" he pleaded weakly. "She won't answer my calls, and she blocked my number."
Knowing the two were just having a dramatic spat over nothing serious, she wasn't going to turn him away.
Under his desperate gaze, she dialed her friend. The call connected instantly, and Ned's eyes immediately welled with tears.
Bonnie relayed the message. There was a long pause on the other end before Helen shrieked, "Tell him to stay right there!"
Saying a silent prayer for him, Bonnie offered some gentle advice. "Whatever happens, you can't throw around the word 'breakup'."
"She's been a wreck the past few days. She won't leave the room, she barely eats, and she's been crying her eyes out over you. How could you hurt her like that?"
Ned obviously hated seeing his girlfriend in pain, but he felt immensely wronged. "When did I ever say that? She's the one who brought it up! She told me if I couldn't trust her, we should just end it! All I did was yell back, 'Fine, let's break up then!'"
Bonnie was rendered absolutely speechless by the sheer stupidity of the situation. Catching sight of Helen storming out of the building in a puffy winter coat, she shot her a quick glance, grabbed Lawrence's hand, and dragged him away.
