A faint blush crept over Helen's face. "Is that weird? We agreed to wait until college. Honestly, I still thought it was too fast. Look what happened. He thinks he's got me trapped now, so he has the nerve to bring up breaking up. Do you think he'd ever pull this crap before?"
Bonnie smiled reassuringly. "I don't think Ned is like that. He's just incredibly insecure right now, and he lashed out trying to hurt you."
Helen knew her boyfriend didn't really mean it, but she still couldn't let it go. "I don't care. If he wants to break up, fine. I'm not scared."
Hearing that, Bonnie felt a wave of relief. This was just a minor lovers' quarrel.
"You guys are so dramatic. Fighting over something so trivial," she mused.
She and Lawrence had never had a fight like that.
Helen shot her a glare. "Your relationship is like a fairy tale. You don't understand how real people date. Plus, Ned and I hardly ever fight like this. I don't know what got into him this time."
"Is that guy really handsome?" Bonnie asked thoughtfully. "Like, really successful or something?"
"Honestly? On paper, he's probably a bit better than Ned. But his personality sucks. Our Ned is amazing. No one compares to him."
Bonnie shivered playfully and giggled. "You're so obsessed with him, yet you're ready to break up. You're so full of it!"
Helen grinned and started tickling her. Bonnie laughed, squirming and begging for mercy. After wrestling for a bit, Helen suddenly paused. "Wait, from the way you're talking... have you and Lawrence already...?"
Bonnie immediately shook her head. "No, we haven't."
She smiled but didn't knock, leaning patiently against the doorframe. One of his classmates eventually noticed her and tapped his shoulder.
Seeing her, a bright smile broke across his face. He quickly stacked his books, grabbed his coat, and hurried out.
The moment he stepped into the hall, he pulled her into a tight hug and nipped playfully at her cheek. "Why didn't you wait for me? It's freezing out. I could've just brought dinner to you."
She rubbed her cheek—he loved doing that. Her eyes crinkled in a sweet smile. "Can't I just miss you?"
"Of course you can. Come on, I'll take you somewhere good." His eyes gleamed with affection as he laced his fingers through hers and led the way.
They grabbed dinner off-campus and lingered outside her dorm, reluctant to say goodnight. He was just leaning down for a kiss when a figure suddenly leaped out from the shadows.
