Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 52

When Bonnie got back from the pool, she stopped by the security booth and handed the guard two packs of cigarettes and a bag of fruit. The guard launched into a long explanation about the little mix-up earlier, how he’d had no idea that was Bonnie’s ex-boyfriend, and now he felt pretty awkward about it. Bonnie just smiled and told him she really appreciated his help.

She’d picked this apartment because it only had one building, all managed together. Most of the people living here had regular jobs. There weren’t any studios or random businesses, so it stayed quiet. Plus, the security guard seemed like a decent guy.

Bonnie insisted on leaving her thank-you gifts. Just as she was about to go inside, she heard someone call her name. She turned to see Felton. The surprise was there, but honestly, she’d sort of expected it. Maybe this blind date wouldn’t just fade out and disappear like the last one. Maybe it deserved a real ending.

They walked to a nearby bubble tea shop. Bonnie offered to buy Felton a drink. He didn’t put up much of a fight, but it was obvious his mind was somewhere else. Neither of them rushed to start a conversation. Bonnie quietly sipped her warm taro milk tea, thinking how overly sweet it was and how she really should get her stomach checked. She couldn’t even have a cold drink in this summer heat, which felt like a real loss.

Felton kept studying her face from the side. He had big dark circles under his eyes, clearly not having slept, and he rubbed at his temples. It took him a while before he said, “Bonnie, I know I don’t really have the right to ask, but could you give me some time?”

He wasn’t ready to let this blind date officially fail, not yet. He wanted time to clean up the mess from his last relationship.

Bonnie turned to look at him. “How much time?”

She didn’t owe a blind date anything, but Felton was Helen and Ned’s friend, so if it wasn’t going to drag on forever, she figured she could wait a little. Felton, though, just went silent, like he didn’t have an answer.
