Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 63

Bonnie squeezed in time after work for blind dates. Another one bites the dust. The third guy had the right background, the right age, the right education. But he was from the south, and somehow, in a time when only children were the rule, he had three older sisters. Personality-wise, Bonnie just couldn't click with him.

The fourth candidate was even more old-fashioned. He picked apart every little thing about her and actually told her she was too beautiful, too aloof, and not the type to be a devoted wife at home.

Then came the fifth. He wanted to know if she’d quit her job and stay home full time. His reason? He had a bedridden mother who needed care.

All the tiny bit of rebellion Bonnie had built up from Lawrence’s relentless pestering just fizzled out as these dates piled on, one after another. Maybe it was time to call Ned’s aunt and scrap the whole thing. She didn't even care about the deposit anymore.

By Friday night, Bonnie had to work late, so she got home well past her usual time. She’d planned to call Ned’s aunt first thing the next morning. Before she could, her phone rang.

The moment she picked up, the apology was already there.

“Bonnie, I’m really sorry. I’m still out of town, and I’m not sure when I’ll be back. Laura told me none of the guys I introduced worked out? Was it their looks? Their personality? Their family?”

“You’re Ned’s classmate, so I’ll just be straight with you. The profiles I gave Laura are from Love Begins Here’s five-star members. I figured, if you weren’t satisfied with them, then really, I don’t know who would be better. Like, take that university professor for example—he’s handsome, tall, highly educated, his parents are both in leadership positions, and he even likes swimming, just like you…”

The more Bonnie listened, the quieter she got.

She couldn’t remember meeting a single guy who matched any of those promises. The profiles Laura sent always looked nice enough, but in person, reality was something else entirely.

Something felt off, and she couldn't quite explain it. The gut feeling was just there, gnawing away.

She finally asked, “Ophelia, I don’t think Laura introduced me to anyone like the person you described. Could there have been some mix-up?”
