Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 66

The tea wasn’t scalding, but it was warm enough to leave Lawrence’s hair damp and his face flushed. He looked feverish, his skin both hot and burning. His throat hurt, his head was pounding. He’d felt this way even before Bonnie’s message had pulled him out the door and over to see her.

Now, with a cup of tea hurled at him, he was left shivering, any bit of clarity he’d mustered washed away by a flood of discomfort. He stared at her in shock, hurt written all over his face, with no way to hide it.

Bonnie pressed her palms over her ears, breathing through the pain until it faded, then lifted her gaze to Lawrence. He had the kind of sharp, handsome brow that always caught her eye, eyebrows forming an elegant arc. His eyes could be so soft and gentle it made you melt. But when he was angry? He’d give you this sidelong look, quiet but cutting.

The tea had missed his eyes. They stayed dry, sharp as ever, as water trickled from his brow. He met Bonnie’s gaze, lost and speechless.

She tried to steady herself, and the memory hit her out of nowhere. That time they’d gone hiking, and the weather had turned nasty without warning. They’d ended up drenched, scrambling into a cave to wait out the rain. She’d teased him that his brows were basically built to keep his eyes dry. Lawrence had just laughed and pressed his forehead to hers.

“Is it really that dramatic?” he’d asked. She swore it was, and told him his eyes and brows were her favorite part. He’d pretended to pout, asking, “So the rest of me isn’t worth loving?” as he leaned in and kissed her, full of longing. Pressed against the cave wall, she promised she loved every bit of him, that his face belonged to her, and no one else could lay a finger on him.

Now, that face just made her feel sick.

She closed her eyes, collecting herself. When she looked up again, her voice was ice cold.

“Have you finally come to your senses? Next time you want to talk nonsense, remember who you are. You’re married—you have a kid. Keep your distance from your ex. Her life has nothing to do with you anymore. That’s common sense, right? I shouldn’t have to be the one telling you.”
