Three Years Later, He Came Back Begging novel Chapter 94

Lawrence ended Hannah’s call and glanced at the subway entrance. The evening rush was in full swing, the sidewalks crowded with people heading home. He lingered beneath the trees, eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of Bonnie.

He’d been coming here every evening for a week, waiting for her after work. The thing was, Bonnie never had a set schedule. Some nights, she finished early, and other times she’d work past nine, then grab a taxi. On those late nights, Lawrence would move his wait over to the convenience store by her place. He just hoped for the chance to walk her home or maybe exchange a few words at the apartment gate.

But Bonnie wouldn’t talk to him. She didn’t even look at him, acting like he was invisible. That hurt like hell. There was frustration, anxiety, a sense of helplessness that made his chest tight. Lawrence honestly had no idea what to do. In the past, even if Bonnie was mad, she never actually froze him out.

It hadn’t always been like this. Their first real fight happened after Hannah came back from an exchange trip to Russia. One night, Hannah called them up, dragged them and some friends out for karaoke. Lawrence had been running after Hannah since they were little, so naturally, she sent him out on errands that night too. He didn’t have a clue what went down in his absence, but when he got back, Bonnie’s face was like a thundercloud.

The moment they stepped back into The Observatory, she shoved him hard and called him shameless. Lawrence was stunned and more than a little hurt. He’d spent hours at that karaoke bar trying to cheer her up, and now she was lashing out at him over nothing. He lost his temper too. He grabbed her and leaned in, kissing her with a kind of desperate energy that felt more like wrestling than romance.

Bonnie wore out pretty quickly, being smaller than him. He had her hands pinned above her head, breathing hard, and when he eased up to kiss her again, he realized she was crying. Not the loud kind—her tears slid silently down her cheeks, her expression all tangled up in hurt and heartbreak. Seeing her like that made his chest ache.

Lawrence honestly had no idea what mistake he’d made this time. He pulled her close, pressing kisses to her hair, her cheeks, his voice tired and gentle as he asked, “Candie, what did I do wrong?”
