"I will sign the marriage agreement. I'll maintain the façade of our marriage, keep Belinda happy, and play along until she gets tired of me. I'll also keep the marriage hidden from the public and cooperate with you whenever necessary."
In the empty restaurant, the only sound was the hauntingly beautiful melody of a cello playing on stage.
Nova looked at the man sitting across from her. His eyes were entirely unreadable as he gave a slight nod, signaling her to continue.
"Your terms are getting my brother out of prison, securing medical treatment for my dad, and paying me two million a month. I have two additional conditions. First, I want Kieran Pearce in jail. Second, I want two percent equity in Forrester Group. Unconditional transfer. You cannot use any legal loopholes to revoke it later."
Tristan raised an eyebrow, genuinely surprised by the demand.
"Based on Forrester Group's current market value, two percent of shares guarantees a minimum of a billion in annual dividends. In a bull market, it could reach tens of billions. You have quite the appetite."
He had always appreciated people who were grounded in reality.
And it wasn't that he couldn't afford the shares.
But watching Nova strip away all sentimentality and ruthlessly negotiate with him, his expression inevitably cooled.
Until she paused, looked at him, and formally addressed him as, "Mr. Forrester."
"I'm securing a lifeline for myself. If, because of certain people or circumstances, you decide to back out of helping my dad and brother, or try to use them as leverage against me, I need a fail-safe. Even with a signed contract and your reputation for keeping your word, I don't trust you. Right now, I only trust cold, hard cash."
Tristan was silent for a long moment. Just when Nova thought he was going to outright reject her, he nodded and ordered his secretary to draft the new clauses into the agreement. When it was brought over, he had Nova sign it on the spot.
Handing her the pen, Tristan spoke.
"I will transfer three percent of my personal fifty-percent stake to you. Kieran is the sole heir of the Pearce family, so putting him in prison permanently isn't realistic. But I can have him detained for a while and entirely blacklisted from the industry once he's out. After the divorce, you keep the dividends, but the principal shares revert to me. During the marriage, you cannot sell or transfer them to anyone else."
"Once you're sure, sign your name and put on the ring."
Nova pressed her lips together as she read the final clause of the agreement—
*The duration of this marriage is solely at the discretion of Mr. Tristan Forrester. Should Ms. Nova Clarke violate any terms of this agreement, the contract will be voided. The female party will be legally required to pay three times the value of all received benefits as a penalty.*
Noticing her hesitation, Tristan knew exactly what she was thinking.
