In the living room of the Sterling residence in Jelasburg, Edmund was feeling lively, working through morning exercises with the butler in the Sterling residence's living room in Jelasburg. After a period of recovery, his complexion was rosy and healthy.
The thumping, heavy footsteps echoed from upstairs.
Edmund glanced up and frowned.
Erin swaggered down the stairs in a black tank top, studded shorts, knee-high boots, and sporting a skull tattoo on her shoulder blade.
Her rebellious outfit was an eyesore to Edmund
She has such a pretty face, but she insists on making it look like a ghost, Edmund thought.
"Grandpa, you're up so early. Full of energy, I see;
Erin drawled as she wandered over and lazily flopped down on the sofa, legs crossed
Edmund shot her a glance, catching her yawning and looking half-asleep, then snorted in annoyance.
"Who's as listless as you, like you were high on something? Did you go out partying last night?"
Edmund frowned, seeing she couldn't even stand or sit properly.
William really lets this girl get away with anything
She's got zero sense of what being a proper heiress is all about, he thought.
Erin bounced her leg, smirking. "Grandpa, that's just how we roll these days. You wouldn't understand."
Just like she didn't get why Edmund insisted on working out downstairs at the crack of dawn, when mornings were clearly made for sleeping in.
"Honestly, who doesn't love a good sleep-in?' she thought.
Edmund blew out a heavy sigh, wishing William and his wife would hurry back and get this troublemaker out of his sight.
"Did your parents say when they're coming back?" he asked.
Erin tapped away at her phone with her manicured nails. "They said next week"
It bugged her just thinking about it.
She was enjoying her life abroad when her mom suddenly hit her with a bombshell: she had a long-lost sister out there, and recently, they'd found some clues that might just bring her home.
Apparently, that sister was born from her mom's first love, and her dad knew all about her-he was actually fine with bringing her into the family
For twenty years, she'd been the one and only princess of the house; everything was hers. Now, all of a sudden, some half-sister was about to show up and try to take her mom away after all these years.
This was the last straw!
So, when she told her mom she was coming back to help out, she was really just playing along with the private investigator's clues-making sure every lead that could track down that sister got erased, one by one.
No way was she letting anyone steal her mom from her. Ever.
Edmund paused, took the cup of tea from the butler, and took a sip.
"You've been lounging around with nothing to do. I'll have your uncle bring you over to his company so you can work there for a few days," he said.
Watching her stroll around like she hadn't faced a single hardship in her life, Edmund just couldn't take it anymore.
When Richard was twenty, he was already taking Wallinton by storm.
Even his eldest son was serving the nation as a translator at the United Nations at that age.
Now, looking at Erin, Edmund feared the Sterling
legacy would be ruined with her.
Erin frowned, "Grandpa, I'm not short on cash. Why would I bother working?*
She'd just gotten word that that bitch had probably been dragged off to Ginkgo Town.
She'd already rounded up her crew of troublemakers, planning to hit Ginkgo Town and hunt that woman down before her parents made it back to the country.
She was dead-set on making that woman disappear for good—if she could ship her off to some godforsaken place where nobody would ever find her, all the better.
Let her get lost and never show her face again, Erin sneered to herself.
Edmund fumed, brows twitching. "You only think you've got it easy because your parents pay for everything. If you can't stand on your own two feet, do you really expect them to keep you forever?"
"My dad already said his whole fortune's coming to me. I could coast through life without lifting a finger." Erin shot back, looking smug and unbothered.
Edmund could only glare at her, momentarily at a loss for words.
No wonder William raised her to be so useless—a total waste of a child. He's practically ruined her, Edmund thought.
"Starting tomorrow, I'm having your father cut you off
No more allowance. You're going to work at your uncle's company, he announced, tone brooking no argument.
Erin had just made plans with her friends to go out to the countryside tomorrow, and Edmund's sudden decree caught her completely off guard
She sprang to her feet. "No way! I've got stuff to do tomorrow. I'm not going."
"I'm heading out for a business trip, Dad. Take care of yourself, alright? Gotta board now-guess I gotta run, talk later," Richard said quickly.
Edmund wasn't ready to let him go just yet, but the call ended before he could keep chatting
He wanted to nag him about settling down, finding a wife, and giving him a grandchild to spoil.
But the call ended before he could get a word in.
Edmund let out a sigh, gazing out at the lush, sprawling tree outside his window. For some reason, a wave of loneliness washed over him.
Richard slipped his phone back into his pocket and strode toward the boarding bridge.
He'd already given Sophia three days-that was his limit. Now, he was going to confront her and demand
she explain how she planned to deal with what happened that night.
Inside the private lounge, Sophia suddenly felt a little uneasy for reasons she couldn't pinpoint.
On either side, two handsome young men were egging her on to try a drink
"Hey, pretty lady, loosen up! Whatever you want us to do, just say the word—we're up for anything," one teased with a wink
Surrounded by the two guys, Sophia felt totally out of her element; she just couldn't relax at all.
Trying to refuse the glass they handed her, she said
"Sorry, I'm not much of a drinker... so I'll pass...uh..."
Before she could protest, one of the guys pressed the glass right up against her lips and tipped it in, leaving her no chance to refuse.
Not wanting to spill anything on her clothes, Sophia had to gulp down a few sips. Her cheeks turned a vivid shade of red-almost as if she was about to burst.
Annabelle laughed, "Sophie, relax, live a little! With all these hot guys here, let's get wild!"
Sophia tried to loosen up, but just couldn't let herself go.
Just as she was about to shove away the guy practically
glued to her side, someone suddenly pushed open the door to the private lounge.
The sudden sound made everyone in the lounge whip their heads toward the door.
The moment Sophia saw the man standing there, her heart practically stopped-first thought, 'Crap, I'm dead.' Second thought, 'Run, now!'
