Annabelle, the legal head of Pioneer Institute, took out the official seal and stamped it next to her signature.
Across from her, Micah did the same-signing, stamping, swapping documents, and repeating the process.
Once the contracts were signed, Micah stood up and shook hands with Sophia and Annabelle.
"It's almost lunchtime. How about we grab a bite together?" Micah suggested.
Sophia glanced at her watch. "Yeah, looks like it's lunchtime. If you don't mind, could we check out your company's cafeteria?*
People said the best chefs were always found behind the scenes in company cafeterias.
I heard Yadel Group even headhunted their cafeteria chef with a huge salary-the dishes there are absolutely killer.
Micah knew Sophia wasn't just interested in the food— she wanted to size up the company's culture by experiencing the cafeteria vibe.
He glanced at his secretary, who immediately said,
"Ms. Quinn, Dr. Evans, I'll get everything set up right away."
With that, he hurried out of the CEO's office.
Micah led them out. "Our cafeteria doesn't quite stack up to a five-star restaurant, Dr. Evans, so don't get your hopes up too much."
Sophia smiled, "I won't be."
As the three of them stepped out of the CEO's office, they found themselves in the secretary's area. It wasn't quite lunchtime for the employees yet.
Several secretaries and assistants were sitting at their desks, checking Sophia and Annabelle out, their eyes full of curiosity and appraisal.
They knew the head of Pioneer Institute would be coming in for the signing today, but they hadn't expected her to be so young, stunning, and look so accomplished
Once they were out of sight, the secretaries huddled together, whispering.
"Both of them are total stunners. So, which one's the boss of Pioneer Institute?"
"The one rocking the black dress, with that confident vibe? That's Annabelle."
"And the other one, with that soft, graceful look-she must be Dr. Evans, right?"
"Yep, that's her. I saw her all over social media lately.
She split up with Yadel Group's heir, and now Yadel Group is blaming her for everything."
"So, it's her, huh? She's a total catch, and he's... well, definitely not."
"But Lucas isn't exactly hard on the eyes. Don't you think Ms. Evans is actually trading up?"
"Trading up? Come on, that guy's a total player-wants everything his way. Are you seriously defending him right now? Ugh, I can't believe you're sticking up for a jerk!"
Honestly, once you get away from Yadel Group, people finally see things as they really are.
"How am I defending guys? I'm just telling it straight— Lucas is good-looking and loaded. If he's into her, seriously, she must've saved the world in her previous life."
"Honestly, who's really the lucky one here? Did you know Dr. Evans was grinding away at how many different jobs over at Yadel Group?"
"Three! Marketing, PR, and hands-on experiments in R&D. Even a workhorse couldn't handle that, but she pulled it off for three years straight. She's a powerhouse—you don't want to underestimate her."
"Exactly! Any idea why Yadel Group's stock keeps nosediving ever since Dr. Evans walked out?"
"W-why?"
"Because Lucas is such a waste! All he does is chase women and cheat on people. Why else has Yadel Group been blowing up online lately?"
"It's all because of that influencer Lucas was two-timing with-she keeps blowing up his mess online. If it hadn't turned into such a scandal, Yadel Group wouldn't be in this trainwreck."
"Still, gotta hand it to Lucas for shooting himself in the foot and chasing away all the real talent. If he hadn't messed up, our company wouldn't have this chance to steal the spotlight."
Sophia had no clue the secretaries were talking about her-she just kept sneezing one after another.
Micah glanced at her, looking concerned. "Dr. Evans, are you alright? Are you coming down with something?"
Sophia waved him off. "I'm fine."
Even though she claimed she was okay, once they found seats in the cafeteria, Micah still sent his secretary downstairs to grab some cold medicine, then personally mixed her a cup himself.
Micah's over-the-top doting made Annabelle feel a . sudden jolt of alarm.
Sophia turned and shot Annabelle a playful look,
laughing, "Honestly, you came to Nelson Group just to be a bad influence!"
Annabelle shrugged and grinned. "Hey, you're the one making it sound irresistible. I was gonna start dieting today, but looks like that's getting pushed to tomorrow!"
The secretary came back with a fresh plate of fried fish fillets. Micah usually wasn't big on fried food, but watching Sophia dig in was too tempting-he gave in and tried one too.
"Hey, this is actually pretty good." Micah grinned. "Dr.
Evans, if you ever get a craving for these, just swing by anytime—officially or just for the food."
Sophia laughed and shook her head. "If I keep dropping in, people here might get sick of me."
"No way anyone could ever get tired of you." Micah shot back with a smile.
As they chatted and joked around, lunchtime hit, and people started streaming into the cafeteria.
When they saw Micah sitting across from two stunning women, everyone couldn't help but sneak glances, curiosity practically buzzing in the air.
Sophia sat there unbothered, calm and confident, letting them look as much as they wanted
After lunch, Sophia had pretty much picked up on
what made Nelson Group tick. She and Annabelle thanked Micah for the meal and took their leave.
As soon as the two left Nelson Group, Billy got word of the news.
"Mr. Westwood, Pioneer Institute inked the deal with Nelson Group this morning-they've sold their formula for the skin regeneration patent. The news is blowing up online, already at the top of the trending list, his secretary reported.
Billy snatched the phone from his secretary. Seeing the headline about Pioneer Institute and Nelson Group's partnership blowing up at number one, he slumped into his chair, completely defeated.
"It's over for Yadel Group! The universe really wants us doomed!" Billy groaned.
He'd threatened Sophia before, thinking shed taken him seriously—that's the only reason he believed she'd delayed signing with Nelson Group.
Turns out, she was just lying in wait for the perfect opportunity to deal Yadel Group a fatal blow.
