Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 1035

The guards and Owen stayed glued to Mira's side, eliminating threats from every direction.

Mira shoved a thick bush out of her way. Just as she stepped forward, a sudden chill ran down her spine. Before she could react, Owen shoved her aside.

A bullet grazed straight into Owen's arm.

She whipped around, spotting the blood dripping from his sleeve. "You've been hit!"

"I'm fine, keep moving."

Ignoring his injury, Owen fired single-handedly at the approaching hostiles, shielding Mira as they pushed forward.

Five minutes later, Mira's group finally reached the upwind vantage point. They unleashed the chemical spray over the dense pockets of enemies.

As the enemy forces collapsed in droves, their squad finally gained the upper hand. The gunfire slowly faded into silence.

But they couldn't afford to relax. Everyone kept their weapons raised, scanning the perimeter with razor-sharp focus for any lingering threats.

Mira had just lifted Owen's arm to apply emergency first aid when she noticed the tall grass rustling behind them.

"Master, we've got company," she warned.

Her gun was already raised and trained on the bushes. Owen's wound would have to wait.

The brush parted, and a dozen figures stepped out, led by a woman.

"Mishka's half-sister?"

Why was there another Mishka look-alike?

As Mira tried to piece it together, the woman spoke.

"I'm not Mishka. Why would you mistake me for that idiot?

She had zero talent and only knew how to start trouble. Isn't she the reason you're all here?"

"Are you her body double?" Mira asked.

The woman standing before them bore a striking resemblance to Mishka.

"A double? Who do you think you're looking at?

Standing in for her was just a temporary gig to get by.
