Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 182

When school let out for the afternoon, Mira and Mr. Harth took the Iron Wolves home early. They needed to eat dinner before heading straight to the office.

On the way, Mr. Harth asked, "How's the bikeshare project progressing?"

"I've been stuck in class all day, so I haven't had a chance to check.

But since the office hasn't called me in a panic, there shouldn't be any major issues."

There were bound to be minor hiccups—it was their first launch, after all.

Mira was dying to see today's numbers.

When they walked through the door, Rachel's son was already there, helping to clean the house.

"Good evening, Miss Mercer!"

"Just call me Mira. Rachel is like family to me."

Rachel's late husband's surname was Cross, so her son was named Mason Cross. He was of average height with small, perceptive eyes that sparkled with sharp intelligence.

From his demeanor alone, it was obvious he was tactful and bright.

"Take a seat, Mason. No need to be so formal around here."

"I heard you're an excellent cook. How about you take over the cafeteria at my company? The pay and benefits are solid."

Mira planned on opening branch offices in the future. If Mason proved his capabilities, he could eventually manage the catering for an entire branch, which would bring in a lucrative income.

Mira chatted with him over dinner.

"You could work in bike maintenance, too, but that's grueling manual labor. Managing the company cafeteria is a much better gig."

For the people who had stood by her in her past life, Mira was determined to take care of them in this one.

"The cafeteria sounds perfect, then."

Rachel also agreed that the cafeteria was a great fit. Their family had a background in the culinary arts, so his skills wouldn't go to waste.

"There's no rush to start immediately. You two haven't seen each other in a while, so take a couple of days to catch up.

Once you start working, you can still come over here to keep Rachel company on your days off."
