Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 27

Adrian added, “Study hard and don’t pay attention to the gossip. Once the news about the arts festival comes out, no one will care about that anymore.

If you can place well, you’ll turn your reputation around in an instant.”

“I’m still a little scared. Besides piano, I don’t really know much else.”

Lacey looked at Mara with affection. “It’s alright. The contestants are all regular students, not professionals.

Your Damon will hire the best teachers for you. Just do your best.”

“So, your adoptive parents treated you pretty well after all,” Mira chimed in.

“Pianos aren’t cheap, and art lessons are even more expensive. That’s not easy for a family from a rural area.”

Mara had always claimed her adoptive parents were cruel and even abused her to gain sympathy.

“I had to cry for a long time before they agreed,” she mumbled.

“Mira, stop nitpicking,” Julian roared.

He’d never realized how detestable Mira could be. Mara was already miserable enough, and here she was, playing devil's advocate.

Mira rolled her eyes at him. “I’m just stating the facts, Julian the Dunce.”

“You…”

“Both of you, that’s enough,” Adrian interjected.

Neither he nor Lacey were ignorant of the fact that Mira was right, but they felt sorry for Mara and were unwilling to reprimand her.

Throughout the entire conversation, no one bothered to ask if Mira wanted to participate.

“Damon is coming back on Sunday? I want to participate too,” Mira said deliberately.

“You shouldn’t. Let’s just let Mara go this time. She needs the experience,” Adrian decided, his face stern.

“That’s right,” Lacey added. “Normally, our daughter wouldn’t need to compete for such a title, but your sister needs to improve her reputation right now.”

Mara shot Mira a provocative look, though she said, “Let my sister participate too. Her skills are much better than mine.”

“Even if her skills are better, she is not allowed to participate. That’s final,” Adrian declared. As soon as the words left his mouth, the corners of Mara’s lips curled up in a smirk.

In her past life, they hadn’t let her participate because her reputation was ruined and they found her embarrassing.
