Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 28

She decided to use two hundred thousand as her main capital and keep the remaining hundred thousand or so as a backup fund, untouched for now.

She heard a knock at the door. Judging by the rhythm, it had to be Rachel.

Mira glanced at the clock; it was already ten o’clock.

When she opened the door, a fragrant aroma wafted in. As expected, Rachel was holding a bowl of steaming, milky-white soup.

No doubt it was on Lacey's orders, a little extra from the soup she was making for Mara.

*So my mother is secretly making special meals for Mara behind my back every day?*

Was it really necessary? The Mercers were a wealthy family; it wasn't like they couldn't afford it.

There was another possibility. Maybe Mara just enjoyed this kind of sneaky favoritism, and Lacey was catering to her tastes.

“Thank you, Rachel.”

Mira took the bowl and began eating it spoonful by spoonful.

“You shouldn’t do this anymore. If Mara finds out, she’ll give you a hard time.”

“It’s fine. They’ve all gone to their rooms by now.”

Rachel took the empty bowl and also picked up the empty fruit plate.

“Get some sleep. It’s not good for kids to stay up late.”

“I know. Be careful on the stairs.”

After Rachel left, Mira refocused on the Bitcoin chart.

She noticed it was almost at a good entry point and quickly jumped in.

But she had bet on it rising, and instead, it suddenly plummeted. She quickly pulled out, but not before losing over ten thousand dollars.

She reversed her position and shorted it. A few minutes later, she had made fifty thousand dollars and quickly cashed out again.

The market was too volatile. She decided to quit while she was ahead, not daring to gamble any further.

After a little more trading, she earned a few thousand more. By then, Mira's total assets had exceeded four hundred thousand dollars. Her current living expenses were no longer a worry.

The next morning, Mira woke up early as usual, but she was surprised to find Ethan already eating when she went downstairs.

Rachel served Mira a bowl of oatmeal and some pastries.

Just as she was about to start eating, a lidded serving dish on the table caught her eye.

“What’s this?”
