Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 430

"So your family is just going to sweep in and reap the benefits?"

Mira asked Harvey.

"Pretty much."

The facts were right there, and Harvey saw no reason to hide them.

"Are you still going to partner with the Mercer Group?"

"We have to. The Rivers family doesn't have the sheer scale to swallow a project this massive on our own."

Mira nodded slowly. "So, Ethan would rather hand the business over to your family than see the Porters get it.

At the very least, if you win the bid, the Mercers still get a piece of the pie."

"Exactly.

And even if they didn't get a single penny, they'd still prefer us over letting their mortal enemies take the win."

"Mortal enemies? Harvey, do you actually know when the Mercer and Porter families started hating each other?"

In their train row, Elara Finn was dozing off in the seat next to them, while Mr. Harth and Wesley Scott sat quietly in the row ahead. Mira and Harvey were the only ones deep in conversation.

Although Mira was close friends with Elara, she definitely had more common ground with Harvey when it came to business.

"I don't know the exact details."

Harvey said, glancing at Mira. "Ever since I can remember—or at least since I started getting involved in the company—the two families have been at each other's throats."

"Who do you think plays dirtier?"

Mira was genuinely curious about the root of this blood feud.

"The Porters, without a doubt. Nine times out of ten, it's the Porters pulling some shady move against the Mercers. Over time, it just escalated into a blood feud.

It feels like it's deeper than just business competition. Shane Porter seems to harbor a very personal hatred for the Mercers."

"Why?"

"I honestly have no idea. Even my dad is baffled by it.

There are only a handful of heavy hitters in Melvion City's business world.

"If I have to marry someone for an alliance, it's going to be you. Otherwise, the alliance can burn."

Harvey grumbled, crossing his arms.

...

The following day, Mira returned to school, and much to her annoyance, Mara was still attending classes like absolutely nothing had happened.

It seemed that with Lacey and Adrian fiercely shielding her, the recent massive scandal had barely left a scratch on Mara's daily life.

Mira narrowed her eyes. She wasn't about to let Mara live so comfortably. It was time to go on the offensive.

After the college entrance exams, Mira would be moving to Aethelgard. Before she left, this Melvion City parasite needed to be permanently eradicated.

During a break between classes, Mira dialed Lenny Forbes. "Lenny, tomorrow is their bidding event. I need you to find a way to make Mara cause a massive scene."

"Boss, what exactly do you want her to do? I'm completely in the dark here."

Mira chuckled softly, entirely unbothered. "Well, it's not every day you're at a loss, Lenny."
