The fallout from the explosive argument with Ethan took its toll on Adrian. He collapsed from the stress and was bedridden for weeks.
During his absence, Ethan systematically dismantled his father's remaining influence and seized absolute control of the Mercer Group. With Ethan firmly in power, Shane Porter's grand scheme to swallow the Mercer assets by using Mara became infinitely harder.
On Sunday, Mira was at the taekwondo studio when Master Ellis dropped a bombshell she never saw coming.
The near-fatal truck accident she had survived during her driving test hadn't just been orchestrated by Porter Entertainment. Adrian Mercer had a hand in it too. He had deliberately leaked her exact route to the truck driver, actively participating in the hit on his own biological daughter.
Was this truly her biological father? Could there be something else Mira didn't know?
When Mira returned to her apartment that afternoon, she was surprised to find Ethan waiting for her.
"Mira, I know you don't want to see me, but I need to say a few things," Ethan began softly.
"I'm sorry for how I treated you in the past. I was blind to Mara's true nature and let you suffer. But after you left, I realized the real problem wasn't Mara. It was Adrian. Mara could never be this vicious if she didn't have his backing. He's her biggest enabler, and he completely brainwashed our mother."
Ethan sighed deeply. "The Porters bought Mara because she's petty, ruthless, and deeply favored. If they kept manipulating her, the company would eventually collapse, and we'd all be left with nothing. That's why I started quietly clearing out Adrian's loyalists. The Mercer Group is entirely mine now. No one can dictate my actions anymore."
He looked at her earnestly. "I came here to tell you that as long as I'm around, you will always have a home, and a portion of the Mercer assets will always belong to you."
"What about Mara?" Mira asked flatly.
"She dug her own grave. If she doesn't repent and continues to harm others, she will face the consequences."
He stood to leave but hesitated. "Damon... he's at Solflare Entertainment now. Is the company solid?"
"Solflare rewards true talent. There's no backstabbing there," Mira assured him.
"That's good. Is Owen Lance the owner?"
"And Harvey Rivers? I heard you two are close..."
"We're just classmates and friends," Mira said smoothly.
