Too Late to Hold Me Back novel Chapter 440

Dominic let out a frustrated sigh over the phone. He was genuinely bummed out.

"It's not about the money, Mira. I'd love to make a killing with you, I really would. But in life, we can't always do whatever we want. We're bound by certain rules. My day job requires absolute dedication, and I strictly cannot take on side gigs.

"How about this: I'll teach you my hacking techniques whenever I have some free time. Deal?"

"Deal," Mira agreed.

Meanwhile, Roxanne Porter was still fuming from the bidding war humiliation. She had spent hours cursing Mara's name, only to pivot her rage toward Mira's new financial venture.

She logged on to blast the Mercers, only to get violently cyberbullied by Mira's loyal supporters. Desperate, Roxanne hired paid shills to flood the forums with negativity, but it barely made a dent in the overwhelming praise. Exhausted, she refreshed the page only to see Mira's funds completely sold out.

Roxanne nearly blacked out from the sheer rage.

However, true to her resilient, venomous nature, she pulled herself together and marched into the office the next morning.

Soon after, Norman reported critical intel: Adrian was bedridden, and Ethan had seized total control of the Mercer Group.

Roxanne immediately realized the danger.

Adrian was incompetent and easily manipulated through his blind favoritism for Mara. But Ethan was the exact opposite—shrewd, highly capable, heavily guarded, and completely immune to Mara and their spies. Under his iron grip, swallowing the Mercer Group would be impossible.

Their only hope was for Ethan to make a fatal error so Adrian could oust him, but Ethan was too smart for that.

"Dad, I have a solution," Roxanne told Shane behind closed doors.

"Let's hear it."

"Not if we use a slow-acting, odorless toxin," Roxanne countered, a cruel smile forming on her lips.

Shane's eyes widened in realization.

"It's brilliant," he agreed. "Just make sure nothing leads back to you."

"Our hands will remain spotless, Dad."

Ethan and Mara were already at each other's throats. If Mara poisoned Ethan, the police would chalk it up to their toxic family feud. The Porters wouldn't even be suspected. And with the only capable heir dead, the Mercer empire would crumble right into their laps.

The next day, Roxanne acquired Lethal Infusion. Simultaneously, Norman relayed the new assassination orders directly to Mara.
