"Those two men are built like tanks and have predatory gazes. They followed Mira Mercer out of the university. Once outside the gates, they closed the distance but maintained a consistent perimeter.
If I had to guess, they're her bodyguards,"
York Vance deduced.
"Just a freshman and already throwing her weight around. Aethelgard University really is full of hidden heavyweights.
Are you going to pursue her?"
Callum Young asked.
"It's not that I don't want to, but I feel like I'm out of her league."
"Well, I've finally lived to see the day York Vance feels inadequate."
"There's always a bigger fish, my friend."
Mira Mercer returned home, surprised to find Owen and Dominic West waiting.
"What are you two doing here?"
"Didn't you say you were coming back tonight?"
Owen smiled.
Mira rolled her eyes inwardly. I came back to see my grandmother, which has nothing to do with you.
"I went looking for Owen and just tagged along,"
Dominic added.
Mira felt they were both acting a bit immature, hardly fitting their executive titles, but she kept the thought to herself.
"Where is Eleanor?"
Mira asked Rachel.
"She heard you were coming back and insisted on going out to buy groceries herself. She should be back soon."
"Did she take the bodyguards?"
"Zane went with her, and Martha tagged along too."
Eleanor hadn't seen Mira in days and was eager to hug her, but she didn't expect to be immediately scolded the moment she walked in.
She stopped in her tracks, staring at Mira like a wronged child.
A pang of guilt washed over Mira. She walked over and pulled the older woman into a tight embrace.
"Eleanor, I'm just worried about you. If anything happens to you, I wouldn't be able to bear it."
Eleanor had been strong all her life, but her only daughter, Lacey, had been a crushing disappointment. Finding this brilliant, capable granddaughter had perfectly filled the void in her heart.
"I know, my sweet girl. I'll be more careful from now on."
"You can go out for groceries, take walks, or go shopping, but you must have bodyguards with you.
Zane alone isn't enough. I'll send you Silas and Jax's numbers. If you want to head out, call them anytime.
I'm relatively safe on campus, so keeping just one bodyguard with me is fine."
It was good for Eleanor to stay active.
