“Rachel has served you for nearly twenty years. Even if you don’t appreciate her service, you should at least acknowledge her hard work! And you just let your daughter attack her? You better watch out for karma!”
“Miss, please stop. I… I’m fine,” Rachel had come over at some point. Seeing Mira avenging her filled her with gratitude.
But she was more worried about Mira, worried that her so-called family would inflict severe punishment on her.
She was just a child. How could she bear it?
“Mira, open the gate. We can talk this through,” Ethan said.
“Oh, Ethan, where was this ‘let’s talk it through’ when the beating was happening?” Mira said mockingly, her hands not stopping.
“Mira, stop it. We’ll take care of the matter with Rachel,” Ethan pressed.
“Take care of it? By paying her off? Can you feel the pain she’s in? Can her psychological trauma be healed?”
By now, Lacey was so heartbroken she had collapsed to the floor. Adrian rushed to help her up.
“Ethan, stop wasting time with her! Break down the gate! Break it down now!”
“Dad, I can't just kick this door down.”
“Smash it! Smash it for me!” Adrian gritted his teeth.
When Ethan didn't move, he turned to another trembling servant. “You, go get the bodyguards.”
*Crack!*
Mira broke one of Mara’s arms.
“Aaargh—!”
With a piercing shriek, Mara passed out.
That was enough punishment for now. It was time to stop. If she waited for the bodyguards, Adrian would definitely have them break down the gate, and the situation would get more complicated.
Then, Mira moved to open the gate.
But Rachel grabbed her with her good hand. “Child, don’t.”
They were so vicious. Once the gate was open, they would surely retaliate against this child.
With that, Mira slung her bag over her shoulder. “Rachel, let’s go.”
“You wretched girl, if you dare walk out that door, you will never come back!”
Mira ignored him and continued to lead Rachel toward the exit.
“Stop!” Mr. Mercer roared again.
“Is there something else you wanted to say?” Mira replied coolly, her peripheral vision catching Tessa hiding in a corner.
Meeting Mira’s sharp gaze, Tessa trembled.
“It wasn’t my fault! Miss Mara made me do it!”
“Tell me everything shady Mara has ever made you do. If you tell me the truth, I might forgive you.”
Mira moved closer, staring into Tessa’s small, calculating eyes.
“I have all the security footage. If you lie even once, I will expose you immediately. I’ll make sure you can never find a job again. I’ll make you a social outcast. I’ll make sure you go to jail…”
