Margaret had been checking her companies’ stock price on her phone. All were soaring-two had even hit a trillion in market value. She’d been in a pretty good mood… until some idiot decided to pick a fight.
She set her phone down, her cold gaze finally locking of Ruby.
She remembered this girl-hiding behind her mob family connections and preying on the original Margaret’s timidity.
Doing homework, running errands, cleaning-all the dirty work fell to the old Margaret. Ruby even shook down students with her outside goons.
Margaret had wanted a quiet first day back. But if someone was dumb enough to court death… she wasn’t gonna hold back.
She stared at Ruby’s neon-streaked smoky makeup-ugy as a ghost-and curled her lips into a smirk. Her voice, beautiful yet sharp, dripped with contempt. “Hey ugly. You tryna die?”
She was sitting down, but when she spoke, her aura exploded, like a queen looking down on her subjects.
Confident as hell.
Bold. Dazzlin
Ruby froze, spooked by the killing chill in Margaret’s eyes. Those eyes looked at her like she was already a
corpse.
Everyone in the class gaped, stunned silent-then the room erupted.
“Wait, did I hear that right?”
“The Margaret who’d hide under her desk when bullied just talked back to Ruby, the biggest bully in school?”
“Did she hit her head or something while she was gone?
“She’s so badass! I’m obsessed!”
“Right? She’s not just pretty-she’s got that cool, tough vibe! Total babe material!”
“She called Ruby ugly! Everyone knows Ruby’s vain as hell-this is gonna get good!”
The class chatter snapped Ruby out of her shock. Rage urned in her eyes.
This hick dared call me ugly? Dared to talk back?
“Margaret! How dare you call me ugly!”
Ruby was plain-covered in freckles. The heavy smoky makeup wasn’t “trendy”; it was a cover-up. Now Margaret had torn that mask off.
Her gaze turned murderous, like she wanted to tear Margaret apart.
Margaret’s voice stayed cool and sharp, impossible to argue with. “Am I lying? Compared to me, you’re a total dog. Facts are facts.”
She flicked a strand of hair behind her ear, casual as could be. But that one move-so effortless-made her

pure, beautiful face suddenly look seductive, like a fatal enchantress.
The guys in class were hypnotized. Their eyes glued to er, jaws hanging open.
“I just saw an angel!”
“Margaret’s not wrong, though. Ruby’s nothing next to her.”
“Margaret, you’re fucking asking for it!” Ruby’s face twisted into a vicious snarl, her heavy makeup making her look like a ghost.
“Is she crazy? Provoking Ruby like that? She’s tiny-Ruby will snap her like a twig!”
“Serves her right. Let Ruby beat her black and blue. Hope that plastic surgery face gets smashed!”
The girls snickered, stirring the pot.
As the fight loomed, the guys turned to Raymond, who boked like he couldn’t care less. “Raymond, seriously? Nothing?”
That’s your sister, for God’s sake!
Raymond was watching Margaret too. Disgust and disdain oozed from him.
Stupid woman-does she really think she could take Ruby?
Why the hell would she pick a fight she can’t win?
And she hasn’t even glanced my way, hasn’t said a single word to me.
She’s ignoring me like I’m just air.
No wonder she tried to poison me. She probably doesn’t even see me as family.
Fine. I don’t care about her either.
Raymond looked away, his mood suddenly sour. “I said leave it. Even if she gets killed, it’s none of my
business.”
Ruby, finally sure Raymond wouldn’t interfere, felt all her hesitation melt away. No more holding back.
She raised her hand, ready to slap Margaret across the face. “You mouthy hick! I’ll break your jaw so you never talk shit again!”
On the other side of the room, Raymond’s lazy gaze sharpened the second Ruby moved. Before anyone noticed, he’d grabbed a chair, knuckles white-like he was about to hurl it at her.
Time slowed to a crawl.
Everyone held their breath, half-expecting to see Margaret’s face get marked by Ruby’s palm.
