Chapter 71 A Matter of Principle
The morning study session ended.
Rickie stepped up to Margaret, his tone respectful. “We’ve collected all the money we owed you from the bet. Do you prefer a wire transfer, or would a cashier’s check suit you better?”
“Wire transfer.” Margaret pulled out her phone and pulled up her bank account details. Rickie jotted them down carefully.
A moment later, Margaret’s phone pinged with a bank notification. She glanced at the screen-she’d received the two million dollars.
Most people would be over the moon winning such a huge sum, but Rickie noticed Margaret never looked up from her book.
Her expression didn’t flicker-like the two million was less interesting than her textbook.
This only made him admire her more. Yeah, makes sense… someone as big as Margaret doesn’t even bat an eye at cash-it’s all just trivial junk to her.
He was right. Margaret truly didn’t care about money. She had so much of it that, to her, cash was just a string of numbers.
Noon arrived.
As soon as class ended, several boys swarmed over, fawning. “Boss, wanna grab lunch with us?”
Márgaret set down her book. “Sure.”
She rubbed her forehead tiredly, checking the time-she hadn’t realized it was already noon.
She frowned, dissatisfied with herself.
It had taken her the whole morning just to memorize all the poems from freshman to senior year of high school. Her efficiency was way too low.

Margaret attended the best private high school in Capaville. The student body split into two groups: wealthy kids who’d bought their way in, and poor but top-performing students.
The cafeteria followed suit.
The first floor served affordable set meals-mostly for students from low-income families. The second floor was a la carte, catering to young masters and misses from rich families.
Margaret and the boys arrived late. The second floor was packed, with barely any empty seats.
Seeing the crowd, the boys reacted on instinct. “Boss, wait here. We’ll chase those guys off and save you a table.”
The boys from Class 19 were all punks. Snatching seats in the cafeteria was second nature to them-typical

bully behavior.
Margaret raised an eyebrow, her aura turning intimidating. “Who dares to try?”

The boys froze instantly, like they’d been stared down by the Grim Reaper. A cold chill ran down their spines-no one dared to move.
Margaret glared at them sharply. “Do you really think picking on others makes you tough?”
Her eyes were as sharp as a knife. The boys avoided her gaze, bowing their heads to take the scolding.
“From now on, if I catch any of you bullying people for no reason, I’ll beat the crap out of you-one by one.”
To outsiders, these boys were little tyrants. But under Margaret’s scolding, they didn’t dare to utter a word of complaint.
“Yes, boss! We were wrong!” they chorused.
Margaret nodded. “Hmm.”
Rickie, ever the quick-witted one, hurried to flatter her after the scolding. “You’re such a good person-so righteous! We’re proud to have you as our boss!”
Margaret’s lips curved into a meaningful smile. “Am I a good person?”
The labels “good person” and “bad person” were never easy to apply to her.
Good? She’d been the King of Assassins, her hands soaked in countless lives.
Bad? During that global pandemic, the medicine she’d developed had saved hundreds of millions of people.
She didn’t care which label people stuck on her.
She’d stopped the boys simply because she hated that kind of behavior.
She never bullied others, and she couldn’t stand bullies either.
But that didn’t mean she was easy to mess with. Anyone who dared to cross her would pay a hundredfold.
She didn’t give a damn about others’ opinions. She acted on her own will.
“Boss, what now? Should we go eat outside?”
The cafeteria didn’t look like it would free up seats anytime soon.
“Fine.” It made no difference to Margaret where she ate.
She turned to leave-but stopped when she saw a group of well-dressed boys and girls walking in through another entrance. A girl stood in the center, surrounded like a moon by stars,
That girl-adored like a goddess-was Clara.
Clara was the school’s beauty queen, the dream girl of countless students.
