CHAPTURAPHET THAT WOMAN HO
CHAPTER 107: LET THAT WOMAN GO–1
KNOX’S POV
The words land like a punch to the gut.
I stare at him, this man who’s been by my side for over a decade, who’s bled for me and killed for me and never once questioned my judgment until now.
And I see something in his face that I don’t recognize. Fear. Not of me – Nathaniel’s never been afraid of me. Fear for me.
“What are you trying to say?” My voice comes out lower than I intended, dangerous in a way that should make him back off.
He doesn’t.
–
“I’m trying to say that you need to think, Knox. Really think.” He holds my gaze without wavering. “That woman – she might be another man’s fated mate. Another man’s second chance. Have you considered
that? Have you considered what happens when she finds him? When the bond she’s supposed to have
with someone else finally clicks into place and she leaves you behind?”
Something cold settles in my chest.
“That won’t happen.”
“You don’t know that. You can’t know that.” Nathaniel’s voice is relentless now, pushing into wounds I didn’t even know I had. “You nearly died on that mountain, Knox. Not for your kingdom, not for your people, not for anything that matters in the grand scheme of your reign. You nearly died for a woman who might walk away from you the moment fate decides to intervene. All I did back there was protect you. That’s all I’ve done for years now, and I refuse to watch you throw it all away because of Ember Aragon.”
He takes another step closer, close enough that I could grab him by the throat if I wanted to.
“Let that woman go.” His voice drops to something almost gentle, which somehow makes it worse. Please, Knox. Set her up with whatever you agreed on after the thirty days are over, comfortable and safe, and let her go. Before she destroys you.”
The silence that follows is thick enough to choke on.
make sure she’s
I should argue. Should defend her, defend us, defend whatever the fuck this thing between us has
become.

But Nathaniel’s words are burrowing into places I don’t want to examine, poking at fears I’ve been trying to bury since the moment I realized Ember Aragon was more than just a convenient arrangement.
What if he’s right?
What if I’m destroying myself for a woman who was never meant to be mine?
CHAPTERJAAN THAT WOMAN GO
“There’s something about her,” Nathaniel continues, and his tone shifts into something darker. “Something that brings out the worst in you. I’ve seen it before, Knox. The way you lose yourself, the way your control slips, the way the beast takes over until there’s nothing left of the man I swore to protect.”
He pauses, and when he speaks again, the name hits me like a blade between the ribs.
“Just like it did with Celeste.”
I move before the thought fully forms.
One second Nathaniel is standing there, calm and composed. The next I have him pinned against the wall with my forearm across his throat, my face inches from his, every ounce of rage I’ve been holding back finally breaking free.
“Don’t.” The word comes out as a snarl, barely recognizable as my own voice. “Don’t you ever fucking mention Celeste.”
Nathaniel doesn’t flinch. He only looks at me with those steady eyes like he was expecting exactly this reaction.
“I’ll always mention Celeste,” he says quietly. “Because that’s where it all began, wasn’t it? That was the first time I ever had to use an injection on you to keep you stable. That was the first time I watched you
