TRADING MY CHEATING HUSBAND FOR THE LYCAN KING novel Chapter 469

CHAPTER 392: WAGER ACCEPTED

EMBER’S POV

The air is punched right out of my lungs.

A sharp, needling pain flares in my chest, but this time, it isn’t for me. My eyes dart to Silas.

His massive chest heaves, his jaw grinding so hard as he stares bitterly at his sister. Slowly, he swallows the hurt, lowers himself back into his chair, and deliberately avoids my gaze.

My heart aches for him.

I am used to weathering her savagery. I stopped hoping for a sliver of maternal warmth a long, long time

ago.

Devika is exactly what she claims to be: an unrepentant, insufferable monster. And the only thing she has ever considered a mistake is my existence.

Well, if I am her only regret, she is going to tell me exactly why. Right here.

I turn back to the table. Under the black wood, Knox’s large hand finds mine, his thumb pressing hard into my knuckles.

I steal a glance at his reassuring grey eyes, taking the strength he offers, before I lock onto my mother

once more.

You’re a real piece of shit, Devika. Such a colossal piece of shit that you somehow managed to piss off the most terrifying royals halfway across the world?

Knox chuckles. You have to hand it to her, love. She has a remarkable talent for spreading her rot. It takes a special kind of parasite to infect two entirely different regions in one lifetime.

My mother’s eyes flash with pure venom, but before she can snap back, I lean forward.

Which brings me to my next question,” I say, ignoring her glare. What exactly did you do? And why the Caeloras?

The scale buzzes with its light.

This time, I reach for a fresh memory, one that has nailed me down for eight years, one I can not wait to forget.

I wager the memory of the first time my exhusband put his hands on me.I say, my voice dead and hollow. The night I called my mother, crying, telling her she had sold me to a monster The night I was battered and bruised and begging for a way out, and my good, loving mother told me I had made my bed with an abusive man, and I deserved to die in it

A sharp intake of breath punches out of Silas I don’t even need to turn my head to feel his bewildered, horrified stare locking onto his sister

Devika’s eyes flash. A furious, defensive red crawls up her cheeks as her comered gaze darts between a very unamused Knox and her stunned brother

CHAPTER 26 WAGER ACCEPTED

Silas’s shock is slowly, visibly morphing into absolute disgust.

She scoffs, lifting her chin. What was I supposed to do? Send the cavalry? She chose to marry that lowclass alpha-

She was seventeen!

Knox’s growl rips through the rooma feral, earthshaking roar that shatters a crystal tumbler on the sideboard and seals Devika’s lips instantly.

15 Points

She was fucking seventeen,Knox snarls. No child decides to end up with an abusive dirtbag. She called you when she was eighteen. She called her own mother, terrified, begging for her life, and youfuck, you turned your back on her. Just as you have for twentysix long years.Knox leans forward over the table, his voice dropping into a bloodthirsty register. I swear to the Goddess, if you dare counter her wager, if you try to evade one more question, I will sink my claws so deep into your chest you’ll wish you had died at the hands of the Caelorans.

Knox’s eyes are murderously gold.

Under the table, his hand squeezes mine so hard his knuckles are white, taking every ounce of his willpower not to launch across the black wood and tear my mother apart.

I rub soothing circles over his hand with my thumb, holding my breath as I swing my hard gaze back to my

mother.

Through all of this, Silas hasn’t spoken a single word.

The rogue king is just staring at his sister with a chilling new level of surprise, looking at her as if he is meeting Devika for the very first time.

And realising he hates what he sees.

Perhaps it is Silas’s crushing disappointment that finally does it. Or maybe it is the promise of death in the Lycan King’s eyes.

Devika meets my gaze, holding it for a second too long, and suddenly, the spite just drains right out of her face.

A souldeep exhaustion eats away the familiar arrogance she wears like perfume.

She sinks her head into her shaking hands.

Wager accepted, she whispers. I’ll give you the truth

Instantly, the scale buzzes.
