Trapped in the Don’s Vow (Serena) novel Chapter 7

Chapter 7

The air in the room turned dangerous in an instant.

Isabella didn’t seem to notice, and she kept rambling on. “Sis, I’ll give you my place. Are you happy now?”

“I’ll be the Moretti family’s princess, and you’ll be Mrs. Gambini. Dad will be proud of both of us.”

I stared at her like I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “Isabella, have you lost your mind?”

Lorenzo spoke next, dripping with contempt. “A woman like you thinks she’s worthy of being my fiancée?”

A cluster of mob bosses and top lieutenants chuckled under their breath.

This is hilarious,” someone said. The Rossi family’s bastard girl finally showed her true colors.”

“When Lorenzo was dying, she tried to seduce her own brother-in-law,” another voice sneered. “Now that he’s recovered.

she wants to crawl back.”

That’s the problem with bastards,” someone added. “No class, no loyalty, and they’ll never be real heirs.”

The mockery stung, and Isabella’s gaze slid toward me through her veil, a sly glint flashing in her eyes.

“You say I’m not worthy, Serena,” she said softly. “But look at you. Are you?”

She lunged forward and yanked my veil away.

The fabric fluttered down onto the marble floor.

Her triumphant smile froze, then shattered into shock. “What… how is this possible?”

“Your scars, she whispered. “Where did they go?”

Vincent stood there, stunned.

Even Lorenzo’s expression turned icy.

“Since you brought it up.” Lorenzo said, voice flat, ‘maybe you can explain something to me, Miss.”

“When Gambini delivered my wife in a coffin, why did she have three deep cuts across her face, sliced down to the bone?”

he asked. “And why was there poison in those wounds?”

Isabella went bone-white.

Vincent blurted, panicked, “That’s impossible. I cut her only to throw people off

“I would never polson the blade.”

I met Isabella’s terrified stare. “Vincent, maybe you didn’t polson your knife, but that doesn’t mean someone else didn’t.”

Isabella crumpled to the floor. “Vincent, it wasn’t me. She’s lying. She’s framing me,”

Chapter 7

Vincent seized Isabella by the arm and growled low, “You poisoned my knife?”

Isabella shook her head wildly. “I swear I didn’t. I’d never dare.”

“Good.” Vincent said, eyes like ice. “I’ll have it investigated.”

“If I find even a trace that leads back to you, I won’t show mercy,” he finished, shoving her aside.

Then his gaze snapped to me, and his voice broke. “Serena, I had no idea.”

“I’m an idiot,” he said. “Please forgive me.”

Ignoring the murderous look on Lorenzo’s face, Vincent grabbed my wrist. “Call off this wedding and marry me, okay?”
