Chapter 208 The Warning
“Just be quiet and let me handle this,” Carter signaled to Freya with his eyes.
After hearing Carter’s reasoning, Freya finally simmered down, though her anger was still plain to see.
“Let’s go! Now, no stalling!” the security guard said impatiently, eyeing them.

“Alright, we’re going,” Carter replied with an apologetic smile, pulling a reluctant Freya along as they followed the guard out of the
room.
Before leaving, both Carter and Freya couldn’t help but shoot a resentful glance at Edward lying silently in the hospital bed.
That ungrateful brat. After all they’d done for him, he wouldn’t even acknowledge them! He was definitely going to get an earful once he was discharged.
Once the room had cleared, Owen finally let out a measured sigh. “In all my years of practice, I’ve never encountered people quite like that.”
“Yes, and they were acting very suspiciously outside the door earlier, like they were trying to listen in,” the nurse added, frowning at the memory.
“Eavesdropping? You mean the two who just left?” Edward asked, his brow furrowing at the nurse’s words.
“Yes, exactly–those two. They were the only ones in the whole corridor pressed up against a door. No idea what they were after…” the nurse said, still puzzled.
Edward pondered this. It seemed Freya and Carter’s visit was even more calculated than he’d thought.
“Be careful when you get off your shift today,” Owen kindly reminded the nurse. “Make sure those two aren’t loitering around.”
“Huh? Really? Dr. Lewis, would you mind if I walked out with you when we’re done?” the nurse asked, a hint of worry in her voice.
“Of course. We can leave together,” Owen agreed.
“Dr. Macdonald’s treatment plan is proving very effective. Your vitals have shown significant improvement lately. Avoiding stress is crucial, and things have been quiet here for you–until that earlier disturbance, of course.
“We’re finished with the check–up for now, so we’ll head out,” Owen said, his tone returning to its usual professional calm.
“Alright, thank you. See you later.”
After Owen and the nurse left, Edward took out his phone and found Arabella’s contact. He hesitated for a moment, then decided to send a text instead of calling–it was safer in case Freya and Carter were still lurking nearby.
“Arabella, if you’re coming to the hospital today, after your appointment, do NOT come up to my floor. Freya and Carter were just in my room. I believe they are here looking for you.”
Freya and Carter had assumed the security guard would simply escort them to the hallway, leaving them free to continue their search for Arabella elsewhere in the hospital.
To their annoyance, the guard marched them all the way through the lobby and right out the main entrance doors.

“You two, stay out. Don’t try to come back in,” the security guard warned them firmly.
“Why won’t you let us back in? This is a public hospital!” Freya argued, her tone unreasonable.

“This facility is open to the public for legitimate medical purposes. You are not patients, and you were trespassing in a private patient room. How can I possibly let you back in? So you can harass other patients? Just move along!” the guard snapped, his patience clearly worn thin.
Seeing that the guard was immovable, Freya whirled on Carter, her anger finding a new target. “This is all your fault! You said we should just go quietly and wait! Now look at us–kicked out onto the street! Tell me, how are we supposed to find Arabella now?”
“Just calm down! We’re still on hospital property; we just can’t go back inside the building. That doesn’t mean we can’t wait right here at the entrance!
“If we’re patient enough, she has to come out eventually. We’ll catch her then!” Carter’s own nerves were frayed, and he wasn’t entirely convinced his plan would work.
But for now, his main job was to placate Freya. Managing her temper seemed more urgent than the original mission.
“Wait at the entrance?! Under this blistering sun? Are you trying to give me heatstroke?
“You wait if you want to! I’m not standing out here.
“This is a mess of your making! You were the one who insisted we leave. Well, you can wait here by yourself! Don’t you dare come back to the car until you’ve spotted that girl!” Freya scolded, her displeasure etched on her face.
The security guard watched Freya berate Carter as if he were a misbehaving child and shook his head inwardly. This woman was something else.
Listening to the tirade, Carter felt a hot wave of resentment. In the old days, she never would have dared speak to him like that, especially not in front of a stranger.
Things had changed. With all the family assets now firmly under Freya’s control, she didn’t hesitate to belittle him publicly. The power dynamic had shifted completely.
But he still had his pride!
Watching Freya storm off toward the parking garage to wait in the air–conditioned car, leaving him to swelter, Carter gritted his eeth in frustration.
