“Oh, really? That’s great news.” Lucas sounded sincerely happy to hear she’d be back in class soon.
“Judging by your tone, you might even be more excited about it than I am,” Arabella noted, a little amused.
“Well, of course I’m glad. It means you’re almost healed. I was actually thinking of asking if you wanted to get out somewhere, just to unwind, but I guess that plan’s on hold now,” Lucas shared openly.
“Right. Soon I’ll be able to drive myself around again.” She paused. “Have Naomi and Ruby been showing up for class these past few days?”
“No. Since Kyle’s laid up too, his sessions are on hold for now,” Lucas explained.
“Kyle’s injury sounds pretty serious. He probably won’t be back for a while, right?”
“Yeah. Not only is he out of commission, but he even asked me to cover for him with his students.” Lucas let out a sigh of pure frustration.
Arabella knew instantly that Ruby was behind this. She’d picked up on Ruby’s little crush on Lucas; Kyle was clearly just being used.
That Ruby… she really doesn’t know when to let things go.
“You sound less than thrilled about it,” Arabella observed.
“Thrilled? Not even close. I’m really not in the headspace to deal with his two students right now,” Lucas admitted bluntly.
“If you don’t want to do it, just say no,” she offered, following his lead.
“I tried. But it’s the first time Kyle has ever asked me for a real favor. Turning him down felt wrong, so I caved. That’s why I’m so annoyed with myself,” he explained, his voice heavy with resignation.
“Well, that’s a tough spot.
“But since you already agreed, there’s no use stressing over it. Actually, if you really want to avoid teaching them, I have an idea,” Arabella suggested.
“What’s that?”
“I could just postpone my own lessons–wait until Kyle is back on his feet before I resume. That way, you wouldn’t have to see them at all,” she proposed.
“That’s… not a bad idea, actually. But it would set your training back. I can’t let you do that just for my sake,” Lucas said, thinking of her progress. Deep down, a part of him also wanted to see her again soon, even if it meant putting up with Naomi and Ruby for a bit.
“It really wouldn’t be a problem for me. My schedule is pretty flexible,” Arabella replied casually.
Truth be told, she had her own reasons–sharing a class with Naomi and Ruby wasn’t exactly her idea of a good time either.
“Let’s just play it by ear for now,” Lucas decided, feeling they’d talked it in circles enough. The thought of going too long without seeing her didn’t sit right with him.

“Alright. Try not to let it bug you too much. If that’s all, I’m gonna go,” Arabella said.
“Okay. Talk later.”
After hanging up, Arabella noticed Alfred was still lingering in her room.
“You’re still here?”
“I, uh, couldn’t help overhearing you talk about classes. What kind of classes?” Alfred asked, looking genuinely curious.
“You know that plane Frank gave me, right?”
“Yeah, I heard about that. I saw it in the hangar when we got back–looks seriously cool,” Alfred said, impressed.
“But what’s that got to do with taking classes?” He still looked confused.

“I don’t know how to fly it, so Frank set me up with flight school. I’d been taking lessons for a few days before I hurt my foot and had to pause. I was just catching up with my instructor about it,” Arabella explained briefly.
“Ohhh, right. That makes sense,” Alfred said, finally connecting the dots. His expression then turned more serious. “Listen, while I have you… what exactly went down with you and the Macdonalds while I was away? The vibe feels… different.”
“What happened with the Macdonalds is kind of a long story. Grab a seat–and maybe a glass of water–and I’ll fill you in,” Arabella said, settling back.
“Alright,” Alfred agreed, pulling up a chair.
In Matthew’s office, he leaned back in his chair and fixed his gaze on Andy. “What’s Naomi been up to lately? Has she been making her usual rounds to my grandfather’s again?”
“Yes. With her flight instructor injured, she’s had more free time. She’s been visiting Stewart Manor quite frequently these past few days,” Andy reported.
Hearing that Naomi was constantly at his grandfather’s, Matthew’s frown deepened with displeasure. “Place someone discreetly at the manor. I don’t want her getting past the gates again.”
“If Mr. Stewart finds out, he might be upset…” Andy pointed out cautiously.
“Then make sure he doesn’t find out.”
“Understood.”
