318 A Tainted Drink
“Well… I’m not sure, then,” the attendant said, shaking their head.
As Arabella frowned, trying to figure out what was wrong, Lucas suddenly went pale.
“Ouch, I need to get to the restroom,” he said, clutching his stomach before hurrying off.
Watching him rush away, Arabella immediately knew for sure–the drink had definitely been contaminated.
The attendant’s face also changed. “What’s happening?!”
Arabella looked at them and asked, “Did you prepare this drink yourself?”
“Yes,” the attendant answered.
“How long ago?” Could they have been served something spoiled or past its expiration?
“Just made it fresh,” the attendant replied.
Arabella frowned. If it was freshly made, it shouldn’t have gone bad.
“I’m back, Arabella. But you… ouch, I have to go again!”
After several rushed trips, Lucas was completely drained, slumped over the table and looking utterly spent.
“We should call an ambulance,” Arabella said, concerned by how weak Lucas appeared.
If it were just ordinary food poisoning, it shouldn’t have affected him this severely.
That thought crossed her mind, and Arabella’s eyes fell on the glass still in her hand.
The attendant was also alarmed and, hearing Arabella’s words, immediately called for an ambulance.
Arabella accompanied Lucas to the hospital.
“Doctor, he became ill after drinking this…” Arabella carefully explained the situation to help the doctor assess it.
The doctor immediately instructed a nurse, “Take this to the lab for analysis. We need the results as soon as possible.”
“Yes,” the nurse replied before hurrying off.
Soon after, Lucas was wheeled into the emergency room…
When he came out again, an hour and a half had passed.
Lucas had an IV in his arm, and though his face was still pale, he didn’t look quite as feeble as before.

“His condition is stabilized for now. We’ll move him to a room for observation. We’ll know more once the test results come back,” the doctor said.
Seeing that Lucas was doing better, Arabella agreed. “Okay.”
After Lucas was settled in a room, the test results arrived.
Seeing him sound asleep, Arabella knew he must be completely exhausted.

“Alright,” the doctor replied, handing the test report to Arabella. “The drink contained a strong laxative. That’s what caused his symptoms. He’ll need to stay in the hospital for a few days on IV fluids and under observation, but he should make a full recovery.”
“Okay, I understand.” Arabella nodded.
After the doctor left, Arabella looked at the sleeping Lucas, her eyes darkening,
It was clear someone had tampered with the drink. Lucas had consumed it and ended up violently ill, and her own glass had also tested positive for the substance.
Who would do such a thing–and it seemed deliberately targeted at both her and Lucas!
“Hmm.” While she was still thinking, Lucas let out a low groan.
Arabella turned to see his eyes slowly opening.
“You’re awake,” Arabella said, noting his pale complexion. “You’re still weak, and the IV isn’t finished. The doctor said you’ll need to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation and recovery.”

I started the novel with great interest. In the beginning the storyline was captivating. Then I feel that the more the story advances, the twists were no longer great. Moreover I don't like Arabella s personality, cold, distant......
