Calvin hesitated for a moment before suggesting, “Freya, I was thinking–maybe we should get someone into his company. That way, we can keep an eye on things from the inside. If an opportunity presents itself, we can…”
“Not a bad idea. That’s smart,” Freya said with approval. “You always have the right plans.”
“I’ll start making the arrangements then,” Calvin replied.
“Do it quickly,” Freya urged. “We can’t let his little venture gain any real traction. He needs to come back home where he belongs.”
“Understood,” Calvin confirmed.
After hanging up, Freya let out a soft, disdainful huff and muttered under her breath, “That little troublemaker, Arabella… trying to drive a wedge between my son and me. We’ll see who Edward really listens to in the end.”
“Mom, what are you muttering about?” Harper asked as she walked into the room, looking curious.
“Nothing important.” Freya quickly shifted back to her usual composed expression and smiled. “You’re home.”
“Yeah,” Harper replied cheerfully, setting a few sleek shopping bags down on the coffee table. “Dylan bought all of these for me today. I had the best time.”
Freya patted Harper’s hand with a semblance of satisfaction. “It’s good that he treats you well.”
“Mom,” Harper said, her tone becoming hesitant as she linked her arm through Freya’s. “Dylan mentioned that his parents want to host an engagement party for us next month. What do you think?”
Freya’s smile tightened slightly. “Let’s… hold off on that for now.”
“Why?” Harper’s face fell, her voice tinged with disappointment.
Trying to sound soothing, Freya patted her hand again. “You’re still so young, sweetheart. There’s no need to rush into these formalities.”
“But Dylan and I have been together for ages. I want everyone to know we’re serious,” Harper insisted, clearly unwilling to wait.
Freya felt the beginnings of a headache. How did she end up with such a hopeless romantic for a daughter?
Seeing how utterly infatuated Harper was with Dylan, Freya knew she couldn’t reveal her true plans outright. It might backfire and push Harper away, making everything worse.
“Harper, I’ve just been swamped lately and don’t have the proper time to plan something worthy of you. Why don’t you talk to the Johnstons and see if we can postpone it for a little while?” Freya suggested gently.
“But why are you so busy?” Harper pressed, a pout forming. “Dad handles most of the overseas business, doesn’t he?”
Freya had no choice but to offer a different reassurance. “I want to organize a truly spectacular engagement party for you- something grand and unforgettable, not something thrown together in a hurry. How does that sound?”
“But what are you so busy with now?” Harper persisted, still unhappy.
“Your brother just launched his company. I want to help him get settled properly first. Once things are stable with him, he can even

attend your party. Wouldn’t that be nice?” Freya explained, manufacturing a reason.

“I don’t want him at my engagement party,” Harper retorted with a flash of anger. “It’s because of him that my party has to be delayed in the first place!”
“Harper, I know it feels unfair, but I promise you this–I will give you the most stunning engagement party this city has seen. All the socialites in Doranor will be green with envy,” Freya vowed, pouring on the charm.
Harper finally softened a little. “Really? You’re not just saying that?”
“You’re my precious daughter. How could I lie to you?” Freya breathed an internal sigh of relief. At least she’d secured a temporary delay.
Dylan was far from her ideal son–in–law, but for now, she still needed the connection his family provided. Stalling was her only viable tactic.
“Okay then, I’ll go call Dylan,” Harper said, her mood lifting as she began to envision the future spectacle.
“Go ahead, dear,” Freya smiled and gave Harper’s hand a final pat.
Harper stood up and hurried upstairs to her room.
Freya shook her head privately once she was alone. Her silly girl–why was she so blindly devoted to someone like Dylan?
“Harper, once your uncle secures that major deal and Clark Group solidifies its position here in Dorano, our family’s standing will be stronger than ever in a few years. Then you’ll be worthy of the finest matches the city has to offer,” Freya mused to herself, a dreamy look in her eyes.
Once she could handpick an elite partner for Harper, they would command respect from everyone in their circle.
Freya got lost in these pleasant thoughts, feeling quite satisfied with her own foresight.
After dinner, the members of the Hamilton family dispersed to their respective rooms to relax.
Arabella opened her laptop, made a few final adjustments to a digital sketch, and sent the file to Cotton.
“Get this produced for me,” she typed in a follow–up message.
Unexpectedly, Colton called almost immediately.
“Hello,” Arabella answered.
“Taking on private commissions behind my back?” Colton teased, his tone light.
“Hardly. I don’t have the bandwidth for that,” Arabella replied. “I need this for a personal matter Have the studio produce it as soon as possible.”
“Got it,” Colton agreed, his tone shifting to serious professionalism.
He didn’t know the specifics, but this was the first time Arabella had submitted a design that wasn’t for a client project. It must be important.

“Oh, by the way,” he added, “I’ve had a few custom design inquiries come in recently. If you have some capacity, I could accept them on your behalf.”
Arabella thought for a moment. Her schedule was relatively clear. “Sure, go ahead.”
She didn’t have much pressing work lately. Taking on a few design projects would be a good way to stay occupied.
“Alright, I’ll confirm them then,” Colton said. “Let’s see… there are two jewelry pieces, an evening gown, and… a landscape painting commission.”
Arabella couldn’t help a soft laugh. “You certainly know how to pick a varied assortment.”
“Just selecting things I thought might hold your interest,” Colton explained with a smile in his voice.
